Default Church for an independent thinking person?

Looking for a church in The Villages where a political independent person would feel welcomed who believes in such ideas as: the rights for women to choose; government should help the disadvantage and the poor; the interests and power of the wealthy negatively influences the interests and power of other Americans and our political leaders left or right.

Hope you find just the church. I am pretty sure that God loves the wealthy just the way he loves the poor. Many poor become wealthy. Many don't change from the decent, good people they were before they worked hard to get money enough to be called wealthy.

I can only think of one religion that doesn't really look at woman as good, and powerful and wonderful just like men. That church doesn't have a building in The Villages. The right for women to choose is between her and her moral values. If you are not a woman, then it isn't your choice.

All churches I know of including my own certainly agree that the poor and needy should be helped. It is the healthy and lazy that need to get to church and help their families and the rest of the world. I have always liked the parable of the talents.

Keep an open mind. You will find almost all those things in all churches and the opposite too. There is only one person we have power over and that is ourselves.

May you find a church home if that is what you are searching for. You will find love and hate too, in almost all institutional churches.

Good morning and a hug. Sorry for the lecture.

A local church is really only a reflection of the people running it at the time. I have heard a lot of good things about many churches in and near the Villages and doubt if they care what your ideas are about abortion, "socialism" as described by some Fox stations, or other matters. I would give the New Covenant United Methodist Church a look see. New Covenant United Methodist Church Also the Catholic Church in Wildwood. http://www.sumtercatholic.org/home.html

My younger brother would often go to this Summerfield Church. http://villageviewchurch.com/

This one may be a good fit??? http://www.uufmc.org/ http://www.uufmc.org/aboutus.html

One thing. Take it slow with expressing your opinions about various things when going into unfamiliar places. That applies to TOTV too. I do see you signed up in 2008 however so maybe you already know when to open up and when not to???

As Tal suggested, the UU church sounds like a good fit. Their mission statement reads: To be a growing and caring religious community devoted to freedom of thought, speech and spiritual beliefs.

What she said...
I have tried many churches elsewhere and the opposite of what I wanted was Uu and unity, both of which I had fairly extensive involvement in, but they may be what you are looking for.

I always went to church trying to understand what God wanted from me.

The Unitarian Church, as mentioned above, is an option chosen for their beliefs of being more open minded than some of the more traditional churches. We have family members that are members of the local church in PA and they open their doors to many beliefs, thoughts, and practices.

I know I am probably one of the more naive people posting on this board, but this poster registered in 2008. Maybe it took them 6 years to get up the courage to ask what is potentially a heated discussion. People with strong religious beliefs may have a problem with someone looking for something outside the norm. Didn't many of us lurk before posting?

God is the one to seek and learn more about, not politicians and followers who think their own school of thought is more enlightened than God's.

The 1st Commandment is all about that.

In that case, the op is to be congratulated for posting a bold religious and political polemic for a first post after years of timidly lurking in the shadows.

The views expressed by the OP are anything but those of an "independent thinking person" The OP enumerates forged rigid, fixed views about several issues along certain lines which are anything but independent. Clearly, the OP is looking for political clone believers rather than independent thinkers.

I believe the poster is coming out of the shadows to brazenly test the Admin/Mods to see just how far they will go to allow political discourse to take place on TOTV after the same-sex marriage thread. I see nothing of timidity in chucktile nor any reason for congratulations re the nature of the post.

You are looking for a group of people with open minds, liberal thinking and equality for women. You will never find that in any church. Try looking into clubs in The Villages.

Now that description certainly rings a bell of familiarity for some posters from the past!

This may just be someone looking for somewhere to worship God with people who share his/her political beliefs/views. From my research this one seems to be the closest. Which some other people have already mentioned. http://www.uufmc.org/
