Default Army Security Agency

I would like to start a group of old ASA'ers. Is there any interest in this issue? Other services security groups would also be welcomed if interested.

I agree even though they changed the name later ASA LIVES in the mind of those of us that were there. I just happen to be an old 983 rather than a ditty bopper. Without you guys though there was nothing that we could have done. Thanks for answering.

Was an 055/05G - never did pass 18 WPM and as a result managed to life a life without cans over ears.

I wonder if we ever were at the same place at the same time? Devens (1966, 1974-1978), Okinawa (1972-1974), Vietnam (1967-1969), Hood (1969, 1970-1972).

Have you ever been involved with the SE Asia ASA Vets Association (www.oldspooksandspies.org)?

I too had a difficult time at 18 WPM and ended up as an 055 in my 1st 3 years. It was later that I became a 983. As an 055 I was stationed at Camp Drew, Japan on a team. Then the team was pulled back to headquarters at Camp Fuchinobie(spelling). Did most of my work at Camp Zama. Left Japan in 58 that time. Got back to Zama in July 62 as a 983 working at ASAPAC. Had my family with me then.

Default Navy CT Here

Navy Security Group here (T brancher). First assignment was Morocco in 1968. taught ASA kids at Corry Station, Pensacola in 1980s along with Air Force, Navy and Marine cryptologic types. Made E8 and retired 1987 as CWO3 in Charleston. Went to Syracuse to be Security Director of DoD contractor for almost 20 years. Navy Security Group is no more - got swallowed up by Navy Information Operations Command. Working in the old HF spectrum was a blast in those good old days! Worked with ASA troops at Homestead AFB in 1972 doing R&D mission. In our own silent little way, we helped Ronbo win that Cold War guys.
