Default Jonny or Johnny Marzetti...either spelling is correct.

Jonny Marzetti for some unknown reason is made by all the descendants of the GERMAN settlers in Central Ohio. It is a cassarole that was taken to every wedding, wake, christening and picnic when I was growing up. It is easy to make and absolutely delicious. (There is another version of it in THE JOY OF COOKING...I prefer this one. Every German cook adds sugar to any dish that she adds vinegar)

I know the recipe by heart.

Actually it probably should be called Hansy Marzetti.

1 pound beef browned with 1 medium onion diced. Add a small can of Hunts regular tomato sauce or a reg can of chopped tomatoes. Then add tablespoon of yellow mustard, a tablespoon of worcestershire sauce, two tablespoons of vinegar, and about 3/4 cups of brown sugar. Salt and pepper wouldn't hurt.

Boil noodles ...a half package to a whole one depending on the size of your group. Drain and add to the meat mixture in a cassarole dish. THEN add at least a half cup of parmesan cheese and a generous amount of grated cheddar cheese.

Serve at once or refrigerate and bake until hot later.

I guarantee you will like it.

Only in America would this fine dish with an Italian name be passed down from German ancestors.

First of all folks from Buffalo are Buffaloians. Here is the winklopedia defination of "beef on weck"!

Quote:
A beef on weck sandwich is a variety of steak sandwich found primarily in Western New York. It is made with roast beef on a kummelweck roll. The meat on the sandwich is traditionally served rare, thin cut, with the top bun getting a dip au jus. Accompaniments include horseradish, a dill pickle spear, and french fries.

The kummelweck roll gives the sandwich its name and a distinctive taste. A kummelweck (sometimes pronounced "kimmelweck" or "kümmelweck") is topped with kosher salt and caraway seeds. Kümmel is the German word for caraway, and weck means "roll" in the south-western German dialects of the Baden and Swabia areas (northern Germans generally say Brötchen)
Hope it helps.

Default Hey there Swimdawg

I am also from WNY - Wales to be exact - a small town near East Aurora. My husband and I just moved into our new home in St James. Maybe if we can round up a group of Bill fans and have our own party. Look forward to meeting you. Sheryl

Pretty soon Ms. Dawg is gonna have a whole herd of Buffalo near her in St. James.

That is very nice indeed.

Default Many Thanx

All those threads decrying the disappearance of the buffalo from TV... thanx for pointing out the positive side... the addition of lots more of us Buffalonians.

And thanx for number 6's perfect description of beef on weck. I'm thinking of going to Schwabels right now to get one!

And thanx for the reminder of the beautiful rolling hills of Wales, which I really enjoy twice a week driving to Freedom NY to do parent care when we are up here.

And thanx for the remention of the four Super Bowls I luvvv the Bills, and I'm fine with their effort.

Oh yes....and we WNYers are very friendly. We welcome anyone into our club as long as they can say 4 words: "Go Bills" and "Go Sabres".
Say those words and shuffle off to Buffa.....I mean, St James.

And it is you must also say "No Goal!" Oh, and I grew up at the other end of Erie County in a little town called Akron. I do miss Perry's Ice Cream.

There's a lot to love in WNY.....great food and great people. I think I'll find the "great people" part in TV.....already have....to tell the truth.

There are four words we WNYers love to hear, "Go Bills" and Go Sabres".
However, there are four words we can live without, "Wide right" and "No goal".

The best is yet to come!

Haven't lived in Buffalo (Amhertst) since 1990 but still a loyal Bills fan. Go Bills! We need a playoff year.
