We tend to focus on having fun like listening to good music or dancing, not food.

Sorry it's that critical rather than hanging out with other folks from LI

How many people in that club?

So does the NY club, Baby boomers club and our dancing clubs

Never said I wanted potlucks. Just that we have been to many, all were great (no complaints) but they were set up like a regular potluck with all foods combined. Some women are fabulous cooks, but I am extremely busy but can usually find the time to put together a nice healthy salad

At this point with almost 500 members and not even a handful of complaints.

For now the board will continue as we are until we get additional feedback to the contrary from more members.

Thanks for your input.

Just like you bring your own drinks , bring your own food . No complaints.

hulahips 07-13-2015 07:40 PM

How do you bring your own food to a potluck? I thought a potluck you bring at least enough food to serve 8?

Since I don't know 3 other women to coordinate dinner for 6 to 8 , we'll unfortunately have to stop going would love to go but just can't figure out how to do this

Since you didn't get enough to eat and left the potluck hungry,
And since you are extremely busy and don't have time to cook,
Why not just pick up some "chicken to go" at Publix?
I've seen it many times at street parties, and it seems to be popular.
Easy peasy.

hulahips 07-14-2015 06:49 AM

Sure. That isn't a problem. The problem was the food wasn't put in front for all to share, so if a couple come in and sit with you and they bring a bag of chips your likely to go hungry since you can only have what is at your table. Very tricky if your not sitting with other women you know to coordinate a meal, don't you think?

I don't think it's tricky at all. I think you're overthinking the whole potluck concept. I thought your worry was going home hungry.
If you take chicken from Publix, you'll always have something to eat.

OK so we may have one piece of chicken for dinner, and if the other women don't bring something to go with it, how do you Not leave hungry.?? It just makes no sense to me, so we'll just continue to go to the clubs where they have the normal potlucks where you have variety of foods to choose from. We enjoy them and never worry about leaving hungry. So many of the women are fabulous cooks! The different variety of foods make the potlucks fun! NY club does a great job!

That's probably the wisest choice.

From my past experience, the ladies usually coordinate dinners with each other but of course men cook too!
