Default Villages Computer Club - Lightning - Friday 4/24

Below is a summary of the Computer Club presentation that is on our 2020 schedule for Friday, April 24, 2020. As you know this meeting has been canceled, but, presenters in both the VCP & the VCC have committed to creating all of the scheduled presentations, despite the fact that they cannot be given in person. As a result, each of these presentations will be posted on the respective websites of each club prior to the originally planned meeting date, just as we have always done in the past. The approach of summer brings warm, sunny days but also the treat of thunderstorms and the possibility of damaging lightning strikes. With Florida’s reputation as the lightning capital of the US, the danger of lightning is a matter of concern to many Villagers. As a public service, Len Hathaway, a retired fire protection consultant, has prepared a pdf version of the talk originally scheduled for April 24 – now cancelled - based on research from the University of Florida and over 250 years of science and experience. The pdf version of his talk (viewable on the VCC website The VILLAGES COMPUTER CLUB Inc. - Home ) clarifies many of the myths and misunderstandings about lightning. The knowledge gained in this presentation will help homeowners make an informed decision about the lightning risk to their family and home as well as steps to take to avoid possible damage. Be sure to take a look at Len’s pdf file on the VCC website.
