Default Calling 911 from smart phone

Do I need to register my IPhone with EMS for them to know where the call is coming from? Or will it work like my home line?

There is no registration of a cell phone with EMS. Whenever calling EMS from a cell phone, you might be asked to identify where you are calling from.

If you call from your home line, they will know the street address where it is located.

911 is not an issue if it’s hardwired land line.

If you replaced your hard wired line with VoIP provider you may have issues dialing 911.

You should call your EMS. In my area they suggest checking that your cell phone will give them the correct address.

No, the Iphone is a mobile phone. As such, it connects through cell towers, so getting an accurate location is difficult if not impossible. TO use the phone in such a way, you would need to TELL them your location verbally.

I hope that makes it a bit more clear.

FCC E911 (Enhanced 911) Phase 2

95% of a network operator's in-service phones must be E911 compliant ("location capable") by December 31, 2005.

Wireless network operators must provide the latitude and longitude of callers within 300 meters, within six minutes of a request by a PSAP (public-safety answering point). Accuracy rates must meet FCC standards on average within any given participating PSAP service area by September 11, 2012

It will always show your home address when you registered for E911 when you signed up for your cell service (if you haven't updated it you should at once) however when you dial 911 they do have the ability to sort of "find" you using a cell tower. They WILL ask you if it is an emergency and where you are even if you are home.

Just happened to me yesterday. Somehow I accidentally dialed 911 from home. When I said it was by accident they told me to "say the word GREEN" if I am OK and if it was an error. I guess that was to cover themselves on the recorded line.

We use Alexa to make phone calls, wonder if 911 can be called.

When we switched to Ooma replacing our land line, we specifically registered address location and nearest fire, police, emergency service.

Regarding the cell phones, I thought I read some where that smart phones were GPS capable (?).

Is there a way to test without using emergency 911?

I will have to do some looking now that the subject is front and center again.

I am not pushing this product but am providing this info to broaden the discussion. Were given a Guardian 911 Alert Plus. It is a dedicated 911 dialing alert button. Researching it on Amazon provided the following review:
"I am a 911 operator! This device in theory is great, however, IF a caller is unable to speak there is no address location given, no call back number available and no registered owner information available. I had a customer of this product call me today. I explained she needed to get her money back! Utilize a home landline phone, cell phone, or a service who is able to give 911 the address if the caller is incapacitated. PLEASE PLEASE do not purchase these for your loved ones in hopes that 911 will respond. My caller was showing over 3 blocks away from her address with the GPS location. The telephone number shows as a 911 area code making it impossible for us (911 dispatchers) to call back. A cell carrier can at least give us carrier information in the event of an emergency. This product is not a life saver!"

If this happens, always say exactly what you are asked to say. Otherwise, they will assume that a home invader is forcing you to say that you dialed by accident, and the police will soon be at your door.

ALWAYS SAY YOUR ADDRESS FIRST! No matter what the 911 operator says. Then give the reason and other information.

That way, if your phone should die, or anything else happens, at least they have a record of where you called from.
