Default Can you see your cellphone in the sun?

Maybe this is a dumb question. Maybe nobody can see their cellphone in the sun. Or maybe everybody can.

And. Yes. I have the brightness setting as high as it will go. And. Yes. I try taking my sunglasses off. -- But that is all I know to try.

My phone is a Samsung something-or-other. It is almost, but not quite, as big as my head. I have had it for a little over a year.

I am so tired of having to go into the bathroom at the pool to see what my phone is trying to tell me. Or looking like a weirdo when I have to hide under my beach towel to see the phone.

So is there such a thing as a cellphone that can be easily seen in the sun? (I do so love my Kindle that shows up in bright sunlight. The Kindle is so nice because when I read at the pool I do not have to read in the bathroom.)

Can iPhones be seen better in the sun? If so, I will break up with my Samsung as soon as I can.

Thank you.

Squinting Laurie

Bright sun---I can't see much of anything on my I phone. It's the same for everyone as far as I can tell.

Think the problem is universal and totally stinks.

redwitch is completely right. There is nothing you can do except find some shade.

I wish a company would make a phone with a screen like the kindle paperwhite. That would solve the issue.

Except....how many people would want to lose their color screen?

Good point.

I'd be one to give up the color screen to be able to see it all of the time ... and probably the battery would last longer without showing all the colors.

It's a trade-off. Food for thought.

I'd happily give up color for visibility.

jimmemac, this is a wonderful comment. Literally.

And thank you to the rest. At least I do not feel so alone. And you saved me a bunch of money. (I, too, would give up color to be able to read the screen in the sun.)

I have a Nokia Lumia phone and can see it fine even in bright sun. It is a Microsoft windows phone however, not apple or android.

Go to settings and reverse colors. In other words read white on black when in sun.

Closely related is that sometimes you can't read the instructions on the gas pumps when there is a glare, which is most of the time.
