Anyone using Century Link DSL SERVICE (NOT their fiber service)?

What is the type of dsl? ADSL? VDSL? VDSL2? that they are using?

Can anyone supply me with the Brand & MODEL NUMBER of their DSL modems or dsl routers for their 25 meg service?

You have to get the modem from CenturyLink.i believe it costs $100.00

We had CenturyLink DSL and just switched to Comcast because we could not deal with the slowdowns anymore. At peak times it was unbearable. We also had issues with the phone service having static. We had Comcast up north and swore we would never have them again but here we are. There is not much choice in the areas that do not have fiber.

That is absolutely not the case. They may want you to believe it is though. In fact when I called to inquire they gave me the model number of one of the many modems (their words) that I could purchase. Netgear D200 available from Best Buy for $60 or ebay for about $25. They also list about 30 compatible models on their website but it depends on what incarnation of DSL they are using.

If you have C.L. what is the model number (and brand) of the modem you are using?

EDIT: To clarify I need INTERNET ONLY. If you have TV and/or phone it is a different story. You may very well only use their device.

ComCrap is THE DEVIL! It kills me to give them the 50% increase they want. My contract runs out 2/1. I have no problem with their 100MB service I have (INTERNET ONLY) at $65 but for $95 F 'em.

I so badly miss FIOS from up north. I SWORE I would never give ComCrap a penny but like you said I had little choice here.

I need only internet and from what I understand is C.L. gets bad when when you also have TV/PHONE and their sucky DSL at once. DSL alone suppsoedly isn't bad. TV and phone sucks up what little bandwidth they have at many addresses so internet gets killed.

I'm hoping I can "negotiate" ComCrap down when I tell them to cancel but if not I have to be prepared to follow through on my threat. C'L. has no contract so I can use them as long or little as I want.

Worse case I can kick my Verizon Cell Service up to unlimited data and use that for internet.

We did not have TV only internet and phone. We have Directv and are very happy with that.

I have DirecTV as well. Used to be a tech support trainer for them in another life. Other than FIOS they are my choice.

If you switch you will regret it. We had messages on our machine we could not even understand because they were so garbled and we could not talk on the phone and browse the internet at the same time. FIOS was awesome but not available to us here.

If your WI-FI speed doesn't match your hard-wired internet speed (or come close to it) you need to get either an updated (faster) wi-fi router and if your wifi device doesn't support the faster wi-fi router you have to update the device get a newer one or if possible a new wi-fi adapter for it in the case of a laptop.

Properly configured and proper wi-fi hardware (wi-fi router & your device) it should be close to equal. I get 100-110megs download on my hard-wired computer as well as our 2 iPhones and iPad and Laptops. If you are getting 25megs into your wired device anything after that would be a wi-fi issue which can easily be resolved if you want to spend a few bucks or, if you are lucky, make a few adjustments..

Maybe your lines won't be as degraded as ours

I just looked up your router and it does indeed support the faster wi-fi (N) connection. If you aren't getting full speeds on your wi-fi devices it could be because:

Those devices don't support "N" or they aren't properly configured (make sure your wei-fi device is connected to the proper wi-fi band) or your router isn't setup correctly.

Yes, DSL is very touchy. Very dependent on distance from DSLAM (basically the central connection) and number of people on your line which explains the "prime time" problem.

Bandwidth via Wi-Fi may drop off considerably with distance.
