Com Cast Internet
Will be retireing on Nov 5th and will be moving down full time. We have owned since 2003.
I've been looking at Comcast pkgs and they seem rather resonable. Question I have is I'm reading that with the DSL McAffee anti virus comes along with the deal. I just installed and paid for AVG anti virus. I know you can't have 2 anti virus software at the same time but can I choose not to install McAffee. Any help would be appreciated. |

If you are asking about a DSL solution I am not sure the offer, although I doubt any provider would force you to install an AV product.
If you are asking about Comcast Hi Speed Internet, they now provide Norton Security Suite. Like Macafee, you do not HAVE to install it. Hope that helps. |

Thanks AJ you're right I was refering to the high speed internet. Norton would not be my choice anyway. I suppose they give you a disk and during the installation process they ask about the anti virus .

Removing McAfee
I would completely remove McAfee and install the AVG. McAfee might think that AVG is a virus if you install before removing. You have to completely uninstall the McAfee and make certain that there are no traces left. I like AVG or Avast because it is more user friendly than McAfee IMHO. I have had to uninstall the preloaded McAfee or Norton and all of the extra programs that I don't use in my computers over the years.

I have never used a disk to setup Comcast here (TV) or in MA, so I am not sure how that works. I plug my cable modem in, call Comcast, to enable service and pray . During the Hi Speed setup, you will be given (choose) a Comcast email account.
After setup complete, you can use that account to login into comcast.net for email, personal web pages, download security tools like NAV. Last edited by ajbrown; 10-27-2010 at 09:58 AM. Reason: first time blues |

Don't know, but I'm guessing the AV software is a perk to get you to sign-up for their service. Tell 'em you have a Mac....No AV software required...

This is what I pulled off the site. Just for info:
Comcast High-Speed Internet with PowerBoost only available with Comcast's 6.0/8.0 speed plans. Comcast 6Mbps High-Speed Internet with PowerBoost provides a burst of download and upload speed above the customer's provisioned download and upload speeds for the first 10 MB and 5 MB of a file respectively. It then reverts to your provisioned speed for the remainder of the download or upload. Many factors affect speeds. Actual speeds may vary and are not guaranteed. Not all features, including McAfee, are compatible with Macintosh systems. Upon termination of Comcast High-Speed Internet, McAfee is terminated |

With the Internet Service you get free the Norton Security Package. I am a computer enthusiast as I build them from scratch and I can tell you that the Norton works fine. It is very light on resources and runs its scans when you are away from the computer. With Comcast you are free to download the Norton or use any security software that you desire. The people I dealt with with Comcast in the early going were awful but since the services have been set up, it has all worked very well. |

When you call Comcast make sure you speak to a salesperson and ask what incentives are available. They often have good deals available if you push the right buttons. |

We have Comcast here in Il and you install the Norton AV online. I still have a MacAfee subscription and will wait until that expires before installing the Norton. You can keep a preferred AV product if you want.

Dougout that's the way it was in March too. Clearlink would install the internet and tv but not the phone. For the whole package you had to deal with Comcast.
