Default IPod batteries?

Anyone know where the closest place is to have new batteries installed on an IPod Classic? My husband bought his at Best Buy, but they told him to send it to Apple. Is there someone local that he can go to? Thanks for any help.

Apple is very proprietary oriented and I'd believe that to be the case. I'd also guess you could get a new generation for not much more. I think the closest Apple Store is Orlando.

You can order a kit with a battery to replace the old battery. They will supply a tool to pop it open. It is not an easy task. You can also find companies that you can mail it off to that will replace the battery. Depending on the age of the ipod. May be better to update and get a newer model.

Cool

I think it's a great excuse to visit the Apple Store! While you're there, you can check out one of the new iPad 2's and give us all an update....

Isn't there something inherently wrong with a product such as this that requires you to return it to the manufacturer to replace a battery? Are there any other products with the same constraint?....gn

A Sansa Clip+ MP3 player has a non-replaceable battery (per the mfr). So if the battery goes belly-up, the device becomes a throwaway. However, I know that some have successfully managed to open the case and replace the soldered in battery.........

'Planned obsolescence', perhaps?

Yeah, its a darned shame having to send it back to the manufacturer. Something like a Rolex, huh. We should be able to crack those babies open and poke around with an ice pick and a hammer and get 'em up and running.
