Default Internet Security Question

Last year I bought Trend Micro Maximum Security and it wasn't until I started to install it that I learned that my new laptop came with 1 year of McAfee LiveSafe. So, I just stayed with the McAfee. Is there any reason I can't use that Trend Micro Maximum Security that I bought last year now that the McAfee is about to expire?

As long as you never activated TM, you should be able to use it now. You'll have to uninstall (or disable) McAfee but make sure you do everything in the order it requires. It'll prompt you, and then it should automatically update itself to the newest version (or it will tell you that there's a new version and give you the option of updating (not upgrading!).

I have several Windows 10 and Android computers and devices and I don't use any add-on virus or internet security software. I've had no security issues. I used to buy Norton, but it didn't seem to do much of anything. Windows 10 is supposed to be very secure with their built-in security software.

i've paid for & used Avast for the last 15 years- in addition to the built-in Windows programs. i'm concerned mcafee, norton, etc are too mainstream to handle certain security threats

Glad I use a Chromebook, I never have to worry about getting a virus!

Stop using antivirus software it's always one step behind. Use a VPN service like Nordvpn or Expressvpn. Much better protection. Or for the best protection, but a bit more cumbersome to use try Deep Freeze. With Deep Freeze if anything changes on your computer you simply restart and it is restored to previous save.

Windows Security is MUCH improved from the useless lines of code from whence it came.

But the OP wasn't asking for recommendations. The OP was asking about whether a specific program he already purchased, will work a year after the purchase.

I suspect that would be a question for TM. I've used it on my Windows 10 computers for the last 7 years. My feeling was the the primary business of Microsoft is not Virus and Malware Protection and the primary business of TM is virus and Malware protection. IMO

If you have a disc, I would just install the program. Or, you can install the program from their website. After you install it, you will probably be prompted to enter the product code to activate it, and then prompt you to install the latest updates. The product code is what you paid for. But, if you used the product code last year, you are most likely out of luck.

ESET Internet security and a VPN will do it.
