The inspector probably losened the cable jacks on the outside of the house. Inspect the inspector.

Check your light switches. Your modem maybe plugged into an outlet that is now turned off.

Xfinity/Comcast turned off my internet and cable two weeks before the requested date when I sold my house by accident. Could be same situation.
|
The cable service line coming INTO the house was disconnected. If all your lights on the modem are lit except the Wifi light, that means it is not receiving service. If no TV then it is obviously the service coming into the home. If it is not a lost service from Comcast, then it is a disconnected line servicing the home. Most homes have a plastic box where the cable line connects to the home to provide service. Most likely, the line is disconnected or loose enough to disable the service.

As to your point, as others have posted, the problem can be diagnosed from the Xfinity web page. They can see the status of your modem. If they can't see it, the problem is upstream from the modem. They will also let you know if they have disconnected it. The modem could also have just failed, but that's really rare. |
Thanks!
Thanks everyone for all of the helpful answers.
I called the inspector this morning and said I thought something was dissconnected in the attic. It was and internet and cable are now working. Thanks again. |

Note that, with Xfinity, your cable TV service has nothing to do with the modem. You can unplug the modem and you will still have cable TV.

[QUOTE=Malsua;1883725]That's a real doozy. I've done a lot of accidents, but wow. ;)
Some days, looking at all the work that has to be done around here, I'd sooner have that kind of accident! |
I am a home inspector. There is little chance that the inspection touched your modem or router.
My best guess is that the outlet the modem or router in plugged into is a GFCI circuit that was tripped off and not reset. Look in the electrical panel, bathroom, portch, etc for a GFCI outlet that is off. Also, call you Realtor and get the name of the inspector, he may be able to help identify what he tripped off and did not rest. |
