Default System Battery

Got an error message that my system battery voltage is low. After some research, I understand the BIOS battery needs replacing which is on the motherboard. I can't do this...no way! So, I have several questions:

Does anyone know someone who can replace this for me...brownies will be their reward!

Where would I take my hard drive (store)?

Do I need to replace the battery? If I don't, what will happen?

Geek squad at Best Buy could do this. Sorry I can't help, I am in RI. Maybe someone from one of the computer clubs in the villages can help. Not a major task or difficult. Good luck.

if you leave your computer on, you won't notice anything. If you shut it off, you will have to reset time and date. Thats about it.

be careful if you do try to replace that battery - I broke the retaining spring so the new battery is of no help

no worse off than before, but frustrating as I almost had the problem fixed!

Try MMD Computer at 124 S US Hwy 27/441 Lady Lake, FL (352)750-3707. It is just south of the intersection of 466 and 27/441 on the left. http://www.mmdcomputers.com/default.asp

Herb Olmstead 352-216-5034 does computer work; he is very experienced, reliable, and reasonable; and will do a free diagnostic. He is at Markets of Marion on the weekends but can be reached at the above number during the week, also.

If you can download a program that sets the time and date when your computer starts, you don't need the battery. These programs can be found online for free, not hard to install.

The http://thevillagescomputerclub.com/default.aspx has a list of people that can install your battery, if you want it replaced.

Thanks for all the great battery advice. To Freeda...I called Herb and he will take care of the problem.
