Default TheVillages.Net

What are the advantages/disadvantages of getting my internet service through TheVillages.Net rather than another carrier like Comcast? Any idea what TheVillages.Net costs per month? Thanks.

TheVillages.net is a dial-up service and not broadband, so your speed will be significantly slower than Comcast or CenturyLink. If all you want is email and web surfing, it could be OK, but sites will load very slowly and it will tie up a phone line.

It currently costs $20/month for dial-up and tee time access. Tee time access alone is $8/month if you have a different internet provider.

Century Link, and pay the extra $5.00 for the 100mpb. You will be amazed at the blazing speed. We are use to satellite service and this is many times faster. Even if you are only surfing and emailing you will want the additional speed.

I just use it for the ease of making tee time reservations. I could do the same thing by phone for free, but I find it much more convenient to do it on line.

Trying to tax my brain a bit. What is "dial-up"??? "Dial up" like in trying to get on the internet via the phone lines... getting that squeaky noise and taking forever to get online?

Or is it like back in the olden days when you'd DIAL UP a business and talk to a REAL person????

That dial-up stuff.....definitely the olden days.

Swimdawg, remember the old squealing 28K modems of the late 1990's? Tied up your phone line also, unless you sprang for a second phone line. I sprang for high speed internet 9 years ago and never looked back. I believe I saw/heard recently that 94% of Americans who have a computer at home use some kind of high speed internet (through cable or the phone company).
