FireFox is my primary browser as well and no problems here.

I have used Firefox for five years or so. About a month ago there was an automatic Firefox upgrade and since then I get at least one screen freeze a day. Might try Chrome if it keeps up.

OK, I may have forgotten to knock on wood when I made that statement because I too am now having some problems with FireFox. I uninstalled/reinstalled this morning and it seems back to normal now.

I understand your problem, it's frustrating as H...eck and people telling you that their Firefox works fine is not a solution. And I agree that FF has a lot more going for it than MSIE. So in the solution department, the fix is painful. The following suggestions refer to FF ver 3.6 running on XP which is a great OS, but does seem to accumulate issues with long term use of FF - I know, makes no sense but what in computers does?? You can try 1), run for a few days & see if it helps - if not try 1) 2), still no luck then 1) 2) 3) etc
So try the following:
1) Start->Program->Accessories->System Tools->Disk Clean Up (NOT Defrag) and check the 1st 4 boxes to delete various temp etc files.
2) Clear cookies etc. FF->Tools->Clear recent history->All and be sure to click the details box & select all items.
3) Remove Firefox - Control Panel->Add or Remove Programs->FF
4) Reinstall FireFox
If this does not fix the problem I'm afraid you will need a computer literate friend and a couple of hours (like you haven't spent that already) as you're looking at a reinstall of your XP - If you have the CDs it can be done without affecting the data on your hard drive, but back up is always a good idea.

Possibly you are all experiencing Windows problems... time to switch to a Mac!

Hey it's worth a try. Given the very limited functionality of the Mac, once you get over the considerable learning curve required to understand the unusual GUI logic, you'll have much more free time because you won't be able to run half the programs that you do now (although I have to admit Vista and Windows 7 users are experiencing similar problems). And you'll be able to run FF, with very few of those annoying addons & plugins - Go for it.

oh boy.... now you've done it! Getting that Windows .vs. Mac conversation going is almost like talking about TRAFFIC CIRCLES ..... :a040:

You're right memason, I won't say anymore about it (although I think traffic circles are even better than XP -ooops I just did, didn't I) because neither item belongs in this thread and also I'm a newbie, so I don't know (or is it no) from nuttin'..... yet.

I uninstalled Adblocker plus addon and my crashes in firefox have stopped.

The only browser I'd ever used was IE. I have far from the fastest machine on the block, but I continued to wonder if my lousy response times were tied to IE performance. Based on feedback from some thread a month or so ago on TOTV, I thought I'd give Firefox a go. I downloaded the current iteration of the 4.0 Beta and it's been great!

So if you're experiencing some problems with Firefox, perhaps giving the 4.0 Beta a whirl might help.

I've been using Firefox for many years and never had any problems with it. However, last week I upgraded to Firefox 4.0 and have had nothing but problems. It hangings up every time I try to load a page. Loading in safe mode without add ons doesn't help. Clearing cookies and browser history also didn't help. Mozilla web site no help.

Finally, I switched to Google Chrome. It's great! It has all the extensions available that Firefox has and it seems to be a little faster. If anyone else has problems with Firefox, try Chrome. You can even import all your bookmarks over to Chrome.

Yup, trouble past two weeks as well.......ugh.

So far no problems with Firefox 4 or IE 9. I like both. I don't love the Chrome interface, for some reason, so I almost never use it.

I like the low-profile feature in IE 9 that tells you if any add ons are slowing your browser and offers to disable them.
