Thanks all. I did search for earlier threads on this but all of the results were very old so I wanted to get current recommendations. Looks like I will be giving Tim Miller a call.

What about mold?

I had one of these installed when building a house "up north".

30" opening

However, it will require professional services to perform a retrofit.

Get the "wider" model of pull-down...metal treads and much safer if carrying boxes...do your best to do any moving with two people for safety

Wow those majaicstairs look really nice! Wish I had those. We’ve had both the wooden and the aluminum types of pull-down ladders in our homes. They are both very rickety. I preferred the wooden one but it was very heavy and couldn’t be used in our new garage since the garage ceiling was much higher.

The majicstairs company must have their own installers since their FAQ says, “Majic Stairs install team arrives and within a few hours your motorized stairs are completed and ready for use. We schedule a 5 hour appointment for most installations.”
Sounds very nice!

I have many items stored in the attic. Had radiant barrier installed and it dropped the temp in attic about 10 degrees.

Just my opinion but I wouldn’t put up wood stairs or some people call them a pull down latter or stairs. Over time the wooden stairs or latter rungs get weak & the first time you try to bring down or take up something that adds weight to your body weight I guarantee you eventually you’re going to hit the floor. BUY A METAL LATTER OR STAIRS, they’re about the same price & are mounted the same way. I bought a Villa for my first home there & the 2nd time I Climbed the stairs a rung broke but lucky me it was the 2nd rung. I replaced it & my 2nd home with metal stairs. The builders put in the cheapest stairs they can find. Just be careful & you do or buy what you want. You won’t regret buying a metal stairs. Remember this is just my opinion!

A good friend wisely increased the size of the opening in the garage ceiling at the top of his pull down stairs to accommodate larger boxes.

Debset 03-11-2020 01:18 PM

Maybe that would explain what happened to the box I asked friends to store for me in their attic? Nowhere to be found now!!!

Yes, I plan to install aluminum. Not sure yet if I want the folding type or the sliding type.
