Hopefully, your contractor shows up today. If not, I would not allow them any more time or excuses and I would file a complaint with the Sheriff's office.

I'm not sure if it would help, but you may want to notify their insurance and, assuming they have it, their bond company to inform them of the legal action you may be taking. If nothing else, their rates may go up.

The majority of contractors are honest and hard working but, given the scams I have heard about, I would be suspicious of any contractor that required a deposit prior to starting work.

Good luck

I also am having trouble with a contractor and have not mentioned their names yet. It has been 2 months and I was comforted by knowing others were having the same problems and then all of a sudden all negative comments were removed from this board and only postive ones left. They also removed all posts and history of the people who were only trying to help others. I also lost my contacts with these people who were trying to help me.

I wrote administration twice and asked why this was done and the post was then locked with only positive comments. This forum is to help us from not getting taken.

I wonder if the contractor to whom you are referring "suddenly" started advertising herein. I hope that is not the case because I believe that this forum should hold its advertisers to a very high standard due to the "community" aspect.

I don't know know "Danny" as you call him or Preston either. And you have sewn seeds of doubt in my mind..but three posts on the same subject and no other posts at all really make me a little sceptical. Do you see where I am coming from?

Again, if I am wrong, I apologise. I would seek legal recourse in small claims court or check with Crimes Against Seniors.

I just have seen contractor bashing by other contractors who aren't doing so well on here.

Gracie,

I know that most times you are pretty much right on, but not this time. The poster and his wife are friends of ours and lived right next to us before going to Tamarind. They finally got them out there yesterday. From December to February is pretty ridiculous. The couple's items in the garage and lanai were about to have more mileage from being moved in and out than their new golf cart every time the painters said that they would be there. The one positive is that the painters do nice work....when they do it.

The couple did not do enough homework (unfortunately) and have since found out that these painters have had charges filed against them in the past for the same thing. Gotta check before.

Don't get scammed

IMHO if these painters haven't been there to complete the job yet I would file fraud charges. I don't care how good of a job they do. This is not how you treat your customers. When I'm in the position of hiring people to do jobs, I will up front let them know that I'm on TOTV and this forum may make or break you. Good word travels fast and bad word travels even faster. Ain't nobody taking advantage of me!!

Betcha they don't get the others again, either.

BTW, my son was telling me that a guy he works with got stung in Jacksonville by not knowing the law. If you contract to have a job done (his friend's was a new roof), do not let anyone offload the materials at your house without making sure they give you a bill of sale showing that the contractor has paid for the materials. If they contractor fails to pay the supplier for the materials, YOU have to pay or you can get a lien placed against your house by the supplier. That's what happened to the guy in Jax. Always get a copy of the paid material bill at the time of delivery to your house BEFORE they unload. If they don't have proof that the materials have been paid for, tell them to take them back until you can see proof.

I am sorry Dillywho. I jumped to that conclusion because this problem was the subject of ALL of his posts. All of you are right. This is the best place to let people know of good and bad work, but a few too many times, the competition comes on and disses a reliable contractor. I don't know how we can keep it straight but it does lend immediate credibility if we have heard from the poster before on varied subjects. On this forum with anyone being anyone they choose to be, even if they give a name, it is hard to sort it out sometimes.

Dilly. Please tell him I am sorry on all counts. For my jumping to that conclusion and questioning his validity and for his being ripped off by those dispicable folks..

Kindest wishes,
Gracie.

A lot of helpful info here

Pharmer 03-19-2012 09:17 AM

It's now been nearly three months since our encounter with Roger and Patti and nothing has changed. We went to Seniors Vs Crime who called Roger. He actually picked up the phone; I'm sure it was due to the fact that caller ID showed Sheriff's Office. They gave the same song and dance to them and promised that they would be at our home in two days. Of course they were No Show! Now Roger won't answer any of the subsequent calls made by S vs C because of caller ID recognition.
Really dumb on our part!

Tell us all again WHO THEY ARE, What they look like, what they call themselves. They should not get one more ounce of business here after what they did to you.

Never take a person that just knocks on your door. You should know who you are hiring.

Irishmen 03-19-2012 03:15 PM

It's amazing How many guys watch a YouTube video or see it done on HGTv and all of a sudden their in business. Sorry about your luck OP.

This driveway painter is still operating in the Villages. He's left a number of customers with unfinished driveways, using water based paint, no clear coat on the driveways, water features that don't work right, unfinished brick work and splattered paint on houses. We hear he is now working the Sanibel area. If you google his name, Roger Greenlee, you will find several mug shots from his previous arrests.

They did a terrible job! Roger knew immediately that something was wrong and said that he would return in two days to take pics to submit to Lowes (the paint supplier) and that they would pay him to correct the mess. Of course he never came back nor will he return phone calls.
The paint was supposed to dry in a matter of hours but never has but after eight days I resorted to putting cardboard on the garage floor in order to get our car finally put away. It is now 30 days later and the floor is still tacky.
I should have known better as his business card does not have his last name nor an address. His invoice is nothing more than a pad of paper from Wal Mart
I would run the other way, if he knocks on your door even if he tells you that he has been doing business in The Villages for 20 years and that his grandfather was a good friend of Harold Schwartz.

Well. I hope you get some satisfaction -- Have you tried going to Crimes against seniors? I went today with a problem with Roger (see my thread) and at least they want to try to help recoup some. Don't know if it will work, but it's worth a try.
Ann

Gee, Guess you're from Crestview too...Didn't he also take money and run?

Wow sorry for you guys :( Yeah door to door always gets a leary eye and mostly the cards go into the recycle bin. Its sometimes just better to go through established companies (ie lowes etc) who will back up whatever there contractors do. We had a floor debacle up north and lowes came in and had it completely redone with the initial contracter they put on the job made a mess of it. There goal was to make it right. Just be very very careful and if it just seems to good to be true...dont do it. Best way with projects is to ask the contractor who there last local projects were. Go knock on a door yourself and ask the customer how they the job went. Best way to get the skinny.
