Cable, TV & Phone
Hi everyone,
We are moving to TV 2/2. We built a new Iris. We are not understanding Comcast. The quote they gave us is to activate about 5 outlets and connect us to TV/Cable and Phone is about $300. What a rip off. Any info or tips would be welcome! Thanks everyone, Jan |

Stay away from them. Stay away from Centurylink for phone and DSL as well. They are pitiful, can't even update their store location on the internet. I looked for them for 3 weeks, finally found them thanks to a customer in Verizon store. Poor DSL service and unresponsive customer service for land line phones. I'd recommend not even getting a land line phone. Check saterllite services for television. Beyond that you are probably going to be disappointed in comparing with what you are used to.

But, we neeeeed a landline. We also want good fast cable service and tv with many channels and dvr's. This area is dissappointing for this stuff!! You'd think they would command better service.

What channel is not available on DirectTV? I am tied into that because of the NFL Sunday Ticket.

We have Centurylink for phone and DSL and have never had a problem with them. Infact we took out a palm tree and accidently cut the phone line and they were out the next day and repaired the line and didn't even charge us for it.
They even have a special $15 per month for all the long distance calls to my out of state friends and family members. I can make as many calls and talk as long as I want for a flat $15. I pay $29.95 for my highspeed internet also. It's not their fastest internet speed but they do have a higher price for that one. I'm happy with the slower speed because I'm not on that often. Basic home phone w/voicemail is $29.95 So between the basic home service, internet and long distance plus all the taxes I pay $87.26 per month.

I had Comcast hooked up in October 2010. I had television and DVD recorder/player, phone, wireless and Internet. The setup was no where near $300. The monhly bill runs arounf $118. I'd call again and ask about setup charges.

If you go with Direct TV, apply online as you'll get the most aggressive pricing. I actually called Direct TV for pricing and after 15 minutes of negotiating, the on line price was still $10 less; and that's not including the $100 referral credit. Also, make sure you select that you have been referred to Direct TV. If you do this, you will receive a $100 credit @ $10/month for 10 months. You'll have to provide a customer number of the person who referred you and that person will also receive $100 credit. This is above and special pricing you receive. If you don't have a person that you can claim as someone who referred you, please PM me and I'll give you my customer number. Again, we both get a $100 credit. Best of luck with your decision and welcome to TV.

We had Comcast activate 3 tv outlets with one DVR, internet, and telephone. It cost us $128.85. When we move down full time I will switch to Directv like we have up north and keep the internet. You'll get the local channels that cable provide except for the TV channel, but you can get that on line. From what little research I've done, I'll probably buy an OOMA for about $200 for the telephone and use that coupled with google phone. From what I've read here and some articles that I've googled, it supposedly works great. I have Comcast now for the renters, and I find nothing wrong with it, but I prefer Directv's programming (sports package, 1080p pay per view) and find their picture quality better.

I would call them again and ask a different question. When they hook up one TV, the rest of the house works as long as you have cable ready TV's. I had them connect 2 TV's add a cable modem for internet and the cost was $49.95 for set up. I use OOMA for phone and it works great. Basic cable is only like $12 a month, internet is $25 a month and extended cable adds about $40 a month. So total bill which gives me basic, extended and internet (phone with OOMA cover all US), and taxes runs $94 a month.

I had Century link for phone and internet & Dish TV. Century link cost was very high $29.95 for phone plus $15.00 long distance with the tax the bill was over $63.00 for phone alone. I switched the Internet to Comcast and got basic cable on one TV then got Vontage for the phone. I am now paying about $12.00 less but I have Comcast TV on one Television, Dish on the rest and faster internet. That gives me The Villages station for weather and cancellations of softball for rain or heat and golf for frost. Another bonus, if there is a storm and I loose the Dish signal I can watch the Comcast television. I am also planning to switch to Direct TV as soon as my 2 year Dish contract is up (4 months). I have had problems with Dish and I want the NFL package.

temporary discontinue of service
Do all or any of these companies allow you to discontinue service for awhile, for those of of us who will be snowbirds/snowflakes?
