old and stupid

I think I am old and stupid but trusting of the everything is fine in The Villages. I was taken by a brick paver layer....gave money up front because the female sales person was so nice, funny, and seemed honest.

Number 1 rule....Never give money up front.
Number 2 rule....Get everything in writing....everything.

They don't give written estimates up front and loosely say the charge is $14 per "bucket", but never define what quantity a bucket is nor how many buckets your beds are estimated to require. At the end of the job, the customer is presented a whopping bill ... I've heard of $600 and $1,300 jobs. They theoretically weed the beds and are supposed to return every 4 months to weed and freshen the mulch. Time will tell if they are ever seen again.

They commenced one job while the homeowner wasn't home and where the homeowner had not given final authorization to proceed.

Yes, yes ... always get estimates in writing and for outfits like this either get a firm fixed price or a not to exceed estimate in writing.

Anybody else out there have any experience with this outfit????

Everybody else.... be very careful when dealing with them.

First of all NEVER do business with somone who just knocks on your door, you are asking for trouble.

I am proud to see such good advice and so glad we have this forum and friends here who are willing to share their experiences.

I so agree with the last five posters and particularly tommy steam.

If I want something, I research it first.

I'm a future TV'r and I have one question. Aren't there gates that require passes or some kind of authority to get into a village??

No. All someone has to do is drive up to the panel in the visitor lane & push the button. We are NOT a gated community.--too large for that.
