More important or perhaps I should say curious is apparent lack of satisfaction a number of people have with merchants in general area?

Is it because most of us have been around long enough to be able to make fair and accurate comparison?

Is it because we have loss patience?

Is it because our expectations are too great?

Is it because we simply that we feel entitled because of our status as "seniors" we feel entitled?

Is it because this is who we always were and nothing satisfies us?

Is it all of the above?

Or is it because its true and merchants are having a problem employing quality help, etc.?

I am being honest here. I gave up complaining" for lent

Yes I do think they can come up with a better way to let customers buy the last, discountinued product. But for us it was worth the wait.

This is pretty common with big box retailer corporate offices. They have zero concern for customers or the people on the front lines.

I worked for a couple of them managing departments in several different locations and it was always the same thing. People who are a thousand miles away from the location deciding what is best for the store.

Did the store refuse to correct an error?

It's not unreasonable to expect an explanation.

I agree as well. And the fact that we haven't heard again from the OP makes me wonder what exactly is going on here.

I usually completely discount hit and run posts like this.

Great term! "Hit and run posts"

I have to admit I am quickly becoming a non-fan of City Furniture. Seems like every order has at least one item not in stock. Worse yet, if you can't be there for delivery for whatever reason when the item is available, they send it on to the next customer missing that item regardless of how long you've been waiting.

Another issue is that I've yet to have them be there on time for a delivery. The best was 30 mins late; the worst was 2 hours with no phone call to explain delay. BTW, it is the drivers who call and give the delivery window (they also load the trucks). Certainly seems as if they should be able to there in the 3-hour window.

We have bought furniture and accessories from both stores here. We were very happy with the sales people (former Southern Lifestyles sales staff), price, and delivery. Some people are never satisfied.

We found City furniture to be very nice with helpful sales people while ordering in the store; however, a bedroom set and mattress arrived with obvious "in transit" damage which was instantly acknowledged by the delivery people. We've been through a nightmare trying to get replacements. We get stonewalled, given the "company policy" routine day-after day and the rigid "everything comes out of Ft Lauderdale so if it comes in maybe this week we only deliver between 8am and 7pm and we can not give a shorter window than that. So either stay home or it will not be delivered iT IS COMPANY POLICY. Perhaps their customer policies should be reviewed or perhaps the contract to operate in THe Villages should also be reviewed by Village administration. We may have to resort to small claims court if the conflict continues to remain unresolved. We will not be going back as a customer. We are now adversarial with them.

Yes, I totally Agree with you. City Furniture is a piece of junk. I had a Bad experience with them. I came to their's store a month ago and bought an entertainment, coffee table, 2 end tables, cough and a love seat. I gave them a month to ship out my order and it finally came on 5/14/14 but still missing a TV stand, I got upset and call them. The answer was that item will be delivery on 6/20. That is so incredible. Nobody has informed me that. I came back to store and complain. I want to return all and ask for a full refund. The manager agrees and schedule for them to come pick up their stuffs. When the guys came to my house, and show me a paper that they can take back everything except for the cough & love seat. They cannot take it back. I got so upset and came back to the store again to see the salesman. He said to me he cannot do anything about it......I did not realize that all the furniture from their store had made in Vietnam & China. Which is I originally came from. They had poor quality product, and I hate using their products. I had wasted $5.000.00 from city furniture. What should I do now. Any suggestions please?

Totally disagree!!! a year and a half ago we purchased a leather sectional, with a console, and 3 motorized recliners. within months the cushions wee sagging and losing shape. it took them weeks to get thee deice guy out to take "pictures of the pieces with issues and then they emailed them to the manufactured in Indiana, so another wait for the manufacturer to get back we kept getting the run around from Family Furniture. first a repairman came out to try and "fix things' Then we had to wait for new parts seats and arms to one in, so those got replaced this all took months! So things wee fine for awhile and no the warranty is up and seats looks horrible sagging my arm rest the leather or whatever is is in th inside part is hard a a rock and split in 2 places! So hereI am a year and a half later with a piece of junk we spent thousands o dollars on. I am writing to the manufacturer this coming week but I don't expect them to do anything, we'll see. Through the whole thing Family Furniture did little to help and never got back to me unless I initiated the calls.

May I suggest White's Furniture in Bellview/Summerfield area? It is a family owned business and is very reputable. I bought a lot of things from them and Southern Lifestyles. I also bought my office furniture from Babette's in Leesburg. I was happy with all of them. Sure miss Southern Lifestyles, though. Sigh

I share a dislike for the 'hit and run' posts too. Unfair and irresponsible and helps no one. We recently bought several bedroom items for two of our rooms from City Furniture. Our salesperson was wonderful, very professional and very helpful. Delivery was right on time. The items were in perfect condition.

I would not hesitate to go there again. And for us it was reminiscent of Southern Lifestyles.

my City Furniture problem

FYI City Furniture problem. 12/21 we purchased some furniture. One of the items was a wooden 60" TV stand SKU # 380-000-0. $849.90! This was delivered and has not moved until we had some painting done. When it was picked up the foot. (round wooden ball with 4 screws) fell off. After we turned it on the side - noticed that it was missing the support in the middle of the piece. I went to City Furniture and noticed it was supposed to have on from the floor model. I also seen the whole where it wasn't screwed in. Looked like it fell off someplace too. I went to the store they gave me a pamphlet to call the home office- I sent them an e-mail and 3 pics as requested. Now they are going to charge me $50.00 for not having warrantee insurance to come fix this. After looking this over I wouldn't have purchased it. The bottom looks like partial board.

Furniture Buying Rules

1. Get ALL promises in writing.

2. Verify whether or not the item is in stock.

3. Find out where the item will be shipping from.

4. Find out if the item will be shipped LTL or whether they wait to have a full truckload. Verify that the furniture will be delivered "into" your home. Some contract carriers only deliver to the curb.

5. Make the retailer the "go to" entity for all problems with shipping and/or the actual product. If they insist all quality problems must go to the manufacturer, then go elsewhere.

6. Confirm ALL phone conversations in an email copied to the store manager. If they cannot or will not agree to do this, then go elsewhere.

7. NEVER pay cash. Always use a credit card. Your ability to contest the transaction is leverage.

Stick to your guns PRIOR to the finalization of the sale. You have ALL the cards at that time.

Erijo 05-23-2014 08:53 PM

I agree, use a credit card to pay. You have protection if a merchant does not deliver. Just call your credit card company and speak with a representative who will explain step by step how to do this. When we lived on LI, NY we bought a top of the line pool for our yard, we used our credit card. The liner on the pool was damaged. I went to store to complain and ask for a new one. They gave me a run around. I called my credit card company and explained the situation. Credit card company filed my dispute. Basically, I was told that because I did not receive the product I was promised at the time of sale, they were going to go after the pool store and get my money back. In addition, they were going to pull their credit card and not allow the merchant to participate or accept their card. I know this is "wordy" and I apologize. The last thing a merchant wants is to have to return money to the bank for this reason and even worse to have credit card privileges revoked. Needless to say, my liner was fixed to my satisfaction, thanks to my credit card agent's advice. Good luck, I hope everything is resolved.
