Thumbs up Desmond Harris

Because of the glowing recommendations on TOTV for Desmond I made an appointment and he came today to do a dryer vent cleaning. This hadn't been done since we have been here for over 8 years. He found that the hose needed to be replaced and replaced it. He also found that the hose to the washing machine needed to be replaced. He will be returning on Friday to replace the hose. As an aside, while living in NJ we returned from a trip to Europe to find 3 1/2 feet of water in our basement because the washing machine hose ruptured. He also replaced 2 kitchen ceiling lights that had blown and replaced the batteries in 2 smoke alarms and a carbon monoxide alarm. However he found that one of the smoke alarms needed to be replaced so he will do that when he returns.

I have to give my highest recommendation for his service. He's also is a real nice guy and replaced the kitchen lights cheerfully. He was a pleasure to work with.

How much lint was there? Was it worth it?

Desmond Harris has helped us with many things around the house, and I highly recommend him. He is a gentle soul.

To the OP....
We don't travel, even for a couple of days, without turning off the main water line in our home. I turn off the hot and cold water at the washing machine every time I finish doing laundry.

We also live in NJ, and I had a single handle lever installed by a plumber to turn off and on both the hot and cold water with one motion. It looks like the washer plumbing here in our TV home is not set up to have that gizmo installed. Here, it's not as easy turning the water on and off at the washer but I still do it. Washer hoses are not strong enough to handle the constant pressure that is exerted on them when the washer is not in use.

As for Desmond Harris....I have an appointment for him to clean out our dryer vent next week. I also decided to call him after reading the wonderful comments folks have made about him on this forum. We recently moved into a 7 year old home and I don't know if the dryer vent has ever been cleaned. Just want to be on the safe side.

After almost 8 years I would say there was a lot. Lint can cause a fire. Desmond said you should do this yearly

After adjusting insurance claims for over 35 years the most common HO claim is a broken washer hose flooding the house followed by a leaking Hot Water Heater. Always turn your water off at the main in the garage if you are going out of town even for a day. Of course if this happens in the middle of the night you will wake up with wet feet. The rubber hoses that come with your washer should be replaced ever few years or you could buy one from Washing Machine Hoses Manufactured Proudly In The USA by Floodchek Corporation They will not break.

I absolutely agree with hiriing Desmond Harris for dryer vent cleaning. Additionally, he replaced the dryer vent hose and all the smoke alarm batteries. He'll also move furniture, flip mattresses, change ceiling light bulbs, wash windows, etc. Give him a call, 308-9243...great guy!!!

Another recommendation for Desmond Harris! He cleaned our dryer vent and replaced our batteries for us. On the way out, he commented that our pavers needed cleaning and sealing. This past Fall, we gave him a call and he did the cleaning and sealing for us. He and his helper truly did an outstanding job. His services are priced right and I really appreciate his professionalism.

The above makes me wonder if he does power washing and windows. I'm particularly interested in the application of a Rain-X or Rain-X-like product on the newly clean windows. I think I'll call him in the Fall and inquire whether he does these services.

Everyone I know calls on Desmond. He is a great guy and has helped me with all sorts of things, even getting something down from my attic, moving a dresser a couple of feet, and of course batteries. I was here for four years before starting his services, and I am happy when they call to remind me it's time for my annual cleaning of the vents. I too had my washer hoses replaced with steel reinforced ones. Hats off to Desmond.

Desmond and Jason cleaned my gutters yesterday. In the fall, they do my dryer vent and alarm batteries. Good people.

Desmond is honest, reasonable, conscious, and does a quality job. My wife and I believe that owing to our frequent use cleaning the vent should be an annual maintenance item

Desmond has been cleaning our dryer vents yearly for several years. All you need to see is a dryer vent hose that has singe or char marks on it where a fire could have started. He showed me my neighbor's hose last year, which had never been cleaned in 11 years. You could clearly see the singe marks.
