We just dumped them for Dish and are tickled to death. No customer loyalty whatsoever.

AzAuSenior 02-11-2021 04:28 PM

It is your choice what to use; but, do not use Dish. DirectTV is okay, but Dish has a reputation of bad business practices. Our friend was lied to by sales and installation followed by manipulation from contracts. Hers is not the only such story. Avoid Dish.

We dropped YouTubeTv also with last rate hike that put to to $70+ a month. So now just have Netflix, Amazon and Local.org for pay services and use mainly Pluto for other viewing choices. Oh, and iWebTV for just about any movie we can’t find otherwise (new or old) and old tv series.

I second the motion. I did the same thing.

LianneMigiano 02-11-2021 06:17 PM

I've tried quite a few in 10 years here

I started with Centurylink, then switched to DirecTV for lower prices, then to DISH when DirecTV prices went up badly. Both DirecTV and DISH have issues that service goes out whenever heavy rain is in the area or it's actually occurring. I have just switched to Xfinity for TV for $30 month plus the modem/router rental of $14.99 - and an additional Flex streaming device with things like a Firestick gives. I've added my former landline from Centurylink to my longtime provider, Consumer Cellular, cell phone account for $15 more than my prior cell phone monthly bill. My prior bill from Centurylink of $85.22 is now down $20 a month with the two changes and I have more things to choose from and no pixilating service in the rain.

terenceanne 02-11-2021 06:33 PM

As someone else posted - 1000 channels with nothing on - no matter what you do its a waste of time and money.
My own personal favorite is the triple play where you are paying for a land line because its cheaper somehow.

Vernon Hud 02-11-2021 06:58 PM

Go out to Market of Marion, and find a booth called All Access TV. I have had this for 2 years, and completely happy. It cost me $45.00 a month, and I can get any channel that I want. My neighbor asked me about it, because his wife was from Germany, and wanted to se e some German TV. Him and his wife are now completly happy. I 'am from Minnesota, and every evening at 6PM, I watch the news from Minneapolis. I get most every channel in the world, I mean the world. The only other countries I kept was Canada, England and Ireland. They have a box that they will sell you for $275.00, that is for one TV, if you want 2 TV's, you need 2 boxes, is what I and the other 5 people that I sent out got. You don't need any more than 2 because they are very easy to move. My wife likes to watch TV in bed at night, so she takes the one from the lani and moves it to the bedroom.Takes about 30 seconds. Also we spend 5 months up in Minnesota each summer, so we just pack both of them up and take to Mn. We just buy internet, and we are up and running. Very simple to use. This also includes all your premium channels like netflix, amazon, HBO, Cinemax, I could go on and on, if it is on TV, you will get it.

Vernon Hud 02-11-2021 07:00 PM

By the way, I will get a little stipend if you mention my name. Vern Hodgson. All Access TV

ithos 02-11-2021 07:38 PM

I don't know how anyone can read all these contradicting posts and come away with a solid basis for making a choice.

I will say this. Comcast has by far the best voice command technology for their remote. It is reliable, streamlined and you can reach almost all of the streaming services like Prime TV by just talking into your remote. No jumping around. My parents love it for that reason.

It also has great deals on mobile phones.

One drawback of the cable companies is that your streaming options away from the home are far more limited that the likes of Hulu and Youtube TV.

I learned of Suppose | Compare Cable, Satellite & Streaming TV Services an earlier thread and it was awesome. Highly recommend it if price is a factor or you have to have an obscure channel that very few people watch.

For cost reasons, channel choices and remote streaming I chose Spectrum internet and Hulu.

For those who use dishes, has the technology improved such that weather related interruptions are much better? I wonder if those complaining about losing service have outdated equipment.

Pretty much where you are in regards to Comcast, just outrageous to keep raising prices at that pace became "we can, because we have no real competition in most markets", however, they are now so far out of line we were also going to Dish. Then grown children said wait, hold off before you regret it.... and all went on to say that Dish also plays consumer games, they have had Dish in many markets and it always has gone even higher than when they had a cable company. So, you end up going through all the hassles of turning in equipment, having new people come and install new, and the when they double your price and keep adding on more "fees", you have to do it all again.... Maybe the really bright folks have the right idea, get a roku and then buy individually those channels you really use instead of having to take a group package to get the one or two you actually watch ???? Thought about it, then found to have internet ONLY to use the ruku exclusively, costs over $90 with all the taxes and "fees".... Can't get a break ! So, it you use firestick or roku, and take $60 in monthly channels, your right back to $160 a month bills !

ronda 02-11-2021 08:35 PM

DirecTV is a great satellite delivered product. You could alternatively get ATT Tv which is the streaming TV. Great product. I highly recommend it.

I pay $50/month for xfinity internet, $65/month for YoutubeTV. You can now get the locast app which will give you all the local Orlando stations for free (with ads) or for something like $5 or $6, ad free. I bought my own modem/router, so no paying rent to Comcast. That will pay for itself in 10 months and the equipment is better. I travel back and forth to another home, YoutubeTV goes with me. No separate equipment.

Can you elaborate on the brand and model number of modem/router and ball park price? That interests me?

Interesting? I can live with $160 month, but when it turns into $265 for less than I had 2 years ago got to go.

Up north I have a Netgear C7000 modem/router combo. House up north is huge and no wifi issues anywhere in the house or around the yard. It was just on sale at Best Buy for $170. In the Villages I went with a Motorola modem/router combo. The Motorola was not available in-store at Best Buy but available to order on their website. I went to the xfinity website to make sure both were compatible and had close to the latest specs.

A Roku stick costs about $50 but I purchased three for $29.99 each on sale. Centrylink fiber is $65 a month forever or you can go a bit slower for $45 a month forever. There are thousands of movies FREE via Roku. You can use LoCast.org to pick up a slew of local stations LIVE for free. I get probably 25 stations broadcasting....or more. I pay for YoutubeTV because it has unlimited DVR recording and I can watch a lot of stuff that way, by fastForwarding through the commercials. Yes, YoutubeTV went up to $70 mo because they added more networks and they had to pay for the additional networks. If you don't like that, you can pay about $20 mo using one of the other streaming networks on your Roku. My daughter shares her PrimeVideo with us so we can get some newer stuff. Plus we can rent videos via RedBox with the Roku or several other networks that rent out movies. If you like just about any subject, you can hook up with Roku either free or sometimes with a one time registration of a buck. Old movies, westerns, auto shows, gun shows, cooking shows, etc. Hundreds of times more than you get with cable.
I was paying over $225 a month for comcast, including Internet. It kept going up and there was something like 13 fees and taxes tacked on. If I want HBO, I subscribe to it and I can quit on line instantly without talking to anyoone. Same with Stars, or any other subscribed network. Just click on it and turn it off. Simple.

How do you record on Utube TV?

Talktofred 02-13-2021 08:52 AM

Comcast

Every time I go past the Comcast store near Starbucks there is a long line of people outside who are returning their equipment and canceling their service. And Comcast couldn’t care less.

It's real simple. You locate the show you wish to record and click on it. In the upper left corner you will see a Plus(+) sign for adding it to your library. Once you do that, you can go to your library and check the scheduling and see when it will come on next. Once you add it to your library, if there are older episodes that aired recently, it will add them to your library so you have the option of going back and watching them again. There is no/NO limit to how much or how long you record them. Unlike Comcast, there is no limit to how much you can save or how long you save it. The only reason I have YoutubeTV is for the DVR. I can get almost every channel they offer, just about free or individually for a small fee IF I want to get the channels separately.
Locast.org is free and it takes your location and gives you all the local stations that broadcast free, such as NBC, CW, ABC, FOXlocal, etc. At least 25 here, some from Orlando, some from Tampa and some other local areas.
I save at least a hundred bucks a month, and I could go totally free, other than the internent, if I wished.
You can use Redbox on line to rent new movies, or you can do as I do and go on the Internet and download movies to my phone and cast them to my TV.

I found a great combination of streaming services that give us everything we want. I had HULU with live TV and no ads but the price went up considerably. We use Century Link for internet at $49/mo for life and stream Sling Blue with news extra (because hubby likes to watch Fox news and Fox business), Locast for all local channels and Netflix (which we share with our son). All together it comes to just under $100/mo. We are very happy with this combination and can switch any streaming service anytime.

We have had xfinity for past year with another year to go.

Last Friday get email that Starz had free weekend preview. Could not get to it and when I clicked on a Starz channel suddenly find I had managed to subscribed to the channel.

45 minutes later could not cancel and no way to either email or call Xfinity on their website.

Went to their store yesterday to cancel and did so.

Today get an email from Xfinity to relate to my experience.

Started giving them a lousy rating and after 3 answers it would not accept my answers and finally told me they were cancelling my comments.

Now I know how they would get good comments from customers.

Antenna TV works as well as satellite did when I had that years ago. Amazon, Netflix, Brit Box and PBS passport over the internet round out the picture. Way up here in Marion County with $25 antenna on a $10 pole the reception is usually good. Down south, closer to the Orlando antenna farm it would be better, no doubt.

If they take bitcoin for payment, it's probably illegal.
If their website doesn't have an "about" link with name of owner/corporation that owns it, it's probably illegal.
If it doesn't have a wikipedia entry, it's probably illegal.

If all of the above "ifs" are true, it's definitely (not probably) illegal.

I have never seen this phenomenon. Which Comcast store is this, on what street? How do you know they're returning their equipment, and not just upgrading it? And of those who really are returning it, how do you know that none of them are moving somewhere that Comcast isn't available, and therefore returning their Comcast-owned equipment for credit on their accounts? And of those who are returning it, how do you know none of them are in need of a new one because the old one is broken?

Did you speak with every person in line, every time you "go past" the store? If not, how do you know they're all canceling their service?

Enquiring minds want to know, first-time poster!

My wife friend moved back north couple months go, she returned her equipment for her. She had to wait inline while other were retuning. Maybe They moved, turning in bad equipment, or getting out of Comcast rip-off. Point is there were people returning something. The store in mall by villages hospital. I think the only store in area that you can return? Which will be the one I will be at in 3 weeks.

They can change there lineup anytime leaving package I paid for short on channels, now they want to charge me extra for Starz when I was paying for it in package lineup. I also notice they claim 400 channels but it same 100 or so channels repeated with HD 3 times.

Watching dish as I type. With dumping Comcast , ATT, and land line, looks like i’m saving approximately 118 dollars month. I got more channels and two cell phone , Internet faster with century link and I pay less for it, tv clearer, electronics smaller. Just have to get use to dish system again. Yes, there some things I miss with Comcast system. But, it don’t put weight the price I was paying. Comcast better wake up IMO there losing customers ever week? Plus there electronic’s needs to in diet.
