Default Damage to lawn from construction activity

We are having some major work done to the rear of our house. This causes excessive traffic on the side of our house and the grass is taking a major beating and sections will likely have to be replaced. The question I have is: should repair of the grass be the contractor's responsibility just as he would be liable for damaging a window or other part of the house? Or, is this "normal building process" that the homeowner is responsible for? There is nothing in the contract on this. Just wondering what other's views are?

Smile Contractor & Grass

If the equipment was needed to complete the job then it is normal and the contractor is not resonsible. I am sure had you brought it up before the start of the job he would have been happy to include lawn repair in his bid.
