I live in the Village of Charlotte and want to have a antenna installed, I called a company in Ocala and they told me that it's hard to get the signal from Orlando and you won't get NBC. Also they said I need an antenna that costs $750. Can anyone who has an antenna confirm this? Also a name of the company you used, and are you getting networks>

I think that Tom from The Villages AV, 352-388-1677, can install one in your attic, for about $250. I bought a tabletop antenna for $12 at Best Buy, saving me a lot of money. However, my antenna gets zero channels. So, I pay Comcast $240 per month for a triple bundle, including Netflix, and every channel known to man (and woman).

Interesting, but my $12 antenna picks up absolutely nothing, not even the "strong" channels.

I originally purchased a $100 unit from Best Buy and placed it outside. Very happy with.


As a second one, I purchased a $50 from Walmart which is a unit behind the TV. It's fine.


I think the key is it must be a "powered" unit....amplified.

I bought this antenna from Amazon two years ago for $25 with free shipping, it's now about $35 from 20 different sellers, still a good bargain. I can get every channel except channel 2, probably second antenna aimed in that direction would pick it up, but I did this for the guest BR so it's not important, I have Directv on my other two TV's. Most of the channels are either Spanish speaking or religious, but channels 6, 9, 18, 24, 27, 35 and a few sub-channels you'll have about a dozen channels that are worthwhile. I probably receive 40 to 50 channels total.

I installed the antenna myself with the optional bracket ($17 photo above) in the rafters in the attic above the garage and then connected to the coax that was coming from the guest BR. I wasn't getting anything at first, so I called Tom at Villages AV, he lives in St. James which is right next to me, he came by and found out the coax that came with the antenna was bad. He also aligned my antenna correctly, which was about 117 degrees and then everything started to work, he charged about $80 for an hour's work and some new coax. If he provides the antenna and does all the work, it's about $250 which was mentioned by retiredguy.

I had the exact same antenna, did not work, probably NOT the fault of the antenna, when I used Google Earth and checked the elevations, there is a hill in Leesburg between our house and the antennas, so I get the TV signals on a very intermittent basis. So if you are lucky and in one of the higher locations you can get about 65 channels, of which 20 will be useful (IMHO), I have moved my antenna to another location and can get the stations out of Ocala much more reliably, hope this helps.

I have the same one (in Country Club Hills), I used 3 3/4 inch 10' electrical conduit pipes (with connecters). Works fine!

@villagetinker is right, not every location in TV has an unobstructed or good enough signal. I'm in Sable Chase.

We also pay for "internet only" through Xfinity for streaming.

attic installation is not very good. Call Ken's Antenna 352 286 6475 He installed one for us and we get 60 plus channels . Several home around us have used him with no problems

I bought the largest antenna at Walmart, (knowing it would be easy to take back if it didn't work). I hung it from the trusses in the attic and pointed towards Orlando. I got a few channels but wanted more so I bought the best booster Walmart had and I now get about 40 non-Spanish channels. Total cost was about $100. You need to do several "Channel Searches" and rotate the antenna slightly each time to get the best reception. Channel 2 is hard to get, but I did get it.

I have a DB4e mounted in my attic and I pull in over 50 channels from Orlando, including NBC. YMMV.

I tackled this problem and using the generous recommendation of someone in my Village of Dunedin, I purchased a Clearstream 4 with mount and a Winegard pre-amp.

I mounted in my attic above garage and aimed. Didn’t get much so I researched the antenna which led me to antennasdirect.com. The have a pointer app for iphone which I used and immediately got all the major stations except channel 2 - NBC which is still VHF.

I emailed antennadirect and they were quite responsive. The took my address, confirms distant and aim, and suggested adding a Clearstream C5 and a combiner which I have not done yet.

My suggestion is to start with antenna direct and see if they can offer a single antenna that will do both right up front.

Lastly, as mentioned previously, remember that you have to do a new channel search with each tweak.

For NBC channel “2” has a retransmission station in Ocala as does CBS 6. Try pointing the antenna toward Ocala and you will be surprised. There is also a FOX station in Ocala that comes in very strong. FOX 51. For ABC I was able to get channel 20 out of Gainesville with the antenna pointed north. Everybody tries for Orlando but this alternative works.
