Nonie, have you tried the Rowenta (?) I think that's the name. They are a little pricey but very good. I currently have a Farberware and I love it. I think the secret is, pay a little more and it works a lot better.

You ironed 21 shirts?? You wanna come into the business with me, sounds like your very experienced.

Does that mean I won't fit-in TV ? :faint:

nONIE 06-04-2009 12:24 PM

The Joy of Ironing

I must confess. I have been a secret ironer for a long time. Yes. I like it. I like it a lot. So now. There. The secret is out. But I do only shirts and khakis. I am not quite as far gone as you sheet ironers.

I also like to do laundry. And I love to work on spots. Gimme that red wine! So there again. More confessions.

I always thought I liked this stuff because, unlike parts of my career, at the end of a basket of laundry or ironing, I could at least see what I had accomplished. There is a psychology to the joy of ironing I do believe.

And Kathie, I love the name of your business. Iron Maiden.

Boomer, ok, I confess now too

I stole it.... I'm not that creative. A woman in Los Angeles had a business with that name and she did all my ironing, but she was expensive.

in the business of my dreams

Kathie, it is a great name anyway.

Here I go pretty much off topic for a minute, but I have to tell you a name that I have for a business. I do not know if anyone has used it or not. But that would be OK because it is a business I will never open.

You know when buildings get demolished and all that equipment is there with the big wrecking balls and stuff. Well, if I am in the area, I cannot help but watch. It is a fascinating process. And sometimes, of course, they just implode those buildings. I have watched that from afar. Like on television.

I always wanted to open a business in that business and I would call my business "Edifice Wrecks." (I wonder if that would make me sound like an English major.)

Well, back to ironing.

Ohhhhhhh noooooooo, Kathie, please have mercy. Please do not holler for Tony. I just meant....oh you know....Oedipus the King..... Oedipus Rex, Greek tragedy by Sophocles I think. BC. Long ago. Tragic hideous mess. Miserable ending. Ohhhhhhhh. Oedipus' name lives on in psychology books. And my business name.....Ohhhhhh. Oedipus/Edifice/Building -- Rex/Wrecks.

Ohhhhhh Kathie, please don't go get Tony. He will get me. Tony and that English major hangup he has. Ohhhhh, noooooo. Please don't tell Tony. Sometimes I forget. Or try to. And then it just comes out in me. Ohhhhh, I don't know why. I should know better. I had a good friend in my younger days who would lie about her major when she met guys she liked. If they found out she was an English major, they would flee she thought or at least move down another bar stool. Why oh why didn't I just keep ironing and not start typing today.

I gotta get outa here. I think I see Tony with his torch and his pitchfork. Ohhhhhhhh noooooo...........:22yikes:

my 1916 dictionary states: Edifice-A large building, a large abstract structure

do you think the meaning of this word has changed over the years?

Only an English major would know about Oedipus the King. Who was he anyhow?

I would like to start a pool here. Everybody put in a quarter and guess a date when Boomer will confess. She would suggest that half the pot go to the winner, half to charity and half to the second place guesser. She is not a math major.

Hey, I'm not getting into the tickling. They have a name for that. We should ask a psychiatrist what it is.

She is a tough bird. She will not confess.

You Guys and Gals Are a Riot

I'm a take-it-out of the dryer gal. The only time I iron things is if we're going on a cruise (or some other type of vacation).

I used to love to iron and got satisfaction in seeing the basket empty. Remember the days of the sprinkling bottle?
