Default Landscaping Services, Pest Control & More??

Good Evening Everyone!

Our new home should be completed soon and we are closing on Jan. 21, 2009. We will be part-timers until we fully retire in June, 2010. So it is time to start thinking about lining up people for the following services. I would love to hear some recommendations from all of you.

Lawn mowing/Landscaping?
Pest Control?

I see that the Villages has an Empty Nest program, but I remember seeing on here that there are full-time residents who also perform this kind of service.

Any info would be so greatly appreciated! Thanks so very much!

Thanks

Default One Big Requirement

Lawn mowing--just check the phone book or your neighbors. Pretty easy to line up.

Grass fertilization and pest control--start with using whoever TV has doing it before you close. Probably Massey. I storngly recommend Fertigator and I can save you a little if you choose them. Send me a message. But Massey does fine if you don't want to bother.

If you're going to be part-timers, be sure to line up someone to pull weeds. If you don't, you'll get overgrown pretty quickly and are likely to get a deed compliance violation from TV. There are a lot fewer people pulling weeds than cutting lawns. Check The Daily Sun ads.

Thanks for the advice. But, part of the problem is that we are in IL and will not be in town for the closing. We were hoping to make some calls and contacts. We do not have a Villages phone book, the Daily Sun or any neighbors yet. So we were hoping to hear from people who could recommend based on your experience.
Thanks for the advice about the weeds too!

If you prefer to not mention business names on this site, please send me a private message. Right now, you are the only TV neighbors I have. Incidentally the area we are building in is just starting up so there are no established neighbors yet. There is a house being built right next door to ours, though. And another a few sites over. So we will have neighbors when we come down in March.

Thanks again and keep the advice coming.

We use PTL (Pests, Termint, Lawn). They take care of Termite and Pest control as well as cutting and trimming the lawn. They do not do weed pulling or landscapeing however.

We also bought from a distance and weren't in TV for the close. We arranged all our services over the telephone (from Canada).

I'm not sure how much "promotion" we're allowed to do on TOTV. If you PM me, I'll give you the contact information for the peeps we use for lawns, pest, weeds, and watching our house when we're away for six months.

You might also check TOTV for past posts, using the Search button at the top of the page. There has been a whole lot of information published in the past.

Best of luck to you.

Another vote for PTL. I have 3 clients who use them and they really are doing a good job for them.

I use A&C for my lawn care, and highly recommend them.
