my daughter will be moving here from Virginia. Need input on storage, moving companies that many of you used. She is considering PODS but I am sure many of you have vast knowledge on this subject. Thanks for your input.

We loved PODS. We loaded it ourselves in Ohio. Came down here and they delivered it on the day we wanted it. I would suggest you use Go to Guys to unload it. Their prices are very reasonable and Albert the owner is great to work with. If you need to store your POD for a while until you are ready they do that also.

PODS is definitely a good option but there are quite a few other container companies out there. Just to name a few, Zippyshell, 1800Packrat, United/Mayflower Boxes...
Pricing really comes down to which company is in the best position to do the move when you want. If PODS has a bunch of containers piled up at one location, they may be willing to offer discounts to distribute some of their containers to other locations. There are also freight trailers which are pretty affordable and don't require you to do any of the driving. UPack offers this service. The site moveBuddha is pretty helpful in comparing some of these options. |

Where do you suggest having the PODS parked? driveway OR roadway, we are in a courtyard villa? I will only have it for 1 day here, want it gone ASAP. thanks in advance.

Perhaps someone with a villa will be able to answer that. Our POD was unloaded in about 2 1/2 hours time and our beds were put together and we were all set up. I believe you just call PODs and tell them what day you want it picked up.

About 2 years ago when we moved here from PA, we looked at PODs, Pack Rat, and 3 movers. It turned out the movers were much more economical AND they did all of the packing and unpacking. Also, we were able to get a direct route on the mover (the same truck that was packed in PA was the same truck that delivered the furniture, no transfer station). We used United Van Lines.
Hope this helps.
