Michele's Hideaway Screens
Anyone have any feedback on Michele's Hideaway Screens in Ocala? Looking at them as a possible source for garage door screen. Thanks.

Yes
We got our retractable garage door screen from Michele's. They are really good to deal with and we have been very pleased. We got the solar coated one and since our house faces west, it makes a tremendous difference in the summer. As I stated in another post, my husband (thank goodness he did it!) has backed into ours twice with the golf cart. Their service was prompt and reasonable to repair it. The screen held...unfortunately, the frame got jazzed up. Cost to repair...about $70 for the frame part that was damaged, but the screen would have been $300 or so. The first time, they had to come out and fix it, the second time they just walked my neighbor through what to do. Even tho they had to come out and do the repair on the first incident, they talked me through what to do in order to get it to a point that we could get the car and cart in and out until they could get here. I would highly recommend doing business with them.

We had them install a retractable front door screen and were very pleased with their work. Looked at three or four other sources and felt most comfortable with Michele's. Everything done on time and correctly. Would definitely recommend them.

Also recommend them - had a retractable front door screen installed, nice job and the screen retracts at a slower speed than most so it doesn't "slam" shut.

Anyone care to share what their costs were to buy the retractable front door screen and have it installed? Our neighbor had it done by another company and said it was something like $385. She loves it and said it is much better than "Home Depot" quality, but that seems kind of pricey to me. But, then again, I have no idea what even a Home Depot screen would cost.
Another question on the front door screens: Does any framing for this take away from the width of the door opening? Is this an issue for getting large pieces of furniture in/out? Last edited by NJblue; 01-21-2010 at 05:15 PM. |

Our front screen door cost about $375. We felt it was the best quality material of the different suppliers that we looked at. As for the framing it does take away about 2" on one side of the doorway but since the door itself also blocks that side, when it is open, the loss is really not a big deal. |

We found one at Lowe's/Home Depot (I cannot remember which now) on sale last year. I "think" it was $99, normally $129. I did the install in about two hours or so ( first one I did, so not too efficient ) and it has worked out great. I cannot say it is the same quality as the $400 ones, but to me it has simply worked and we love it. One test it had was last month is a friend walked right through it going to his car when it was dark outside (I am laughing at the memory as I type this). He looked like a fish caught in a net . I guess I should put some stickers on there......but who would think the front door is wide open It was all out of the housing, all uneven, off the top rail and I thought, it must be ruined, pulled it open, pulled it closed a couple of times, got it back in the track and never new anything happened. As far as space lost, the housing that holds the screen does reduce the door size by almost 2 inches, same as the door itself does when wide open at my house. If I had something that required removing the door, it would not take me much longer to remove the screen housing. |

Good news, though. Jack (Michele's guru) had to replace the L bracket which runs from the top to the bottom. This holds the track part. Didn't take very long (30 minutes?). Total charge $45.00. Able to use the garage again....priceless. Very reasonable in my book.
