Default Need help choosing between several roofing contractors and asphalt shingle brands

Looking for some feedback from anyone who has recently had a roof replaced by either McGinnis, SPS, or McHale roofers.
How was the experience and would you recommend any or all of the three companies?

Any advise re: choice of underlayment, drip edge replacement vs reusing preexisting drip edge, etc?

Most of the companies I have received bids from are not able to install a new roof for 4 to 5 weeks. One company said they could do it next week. Is that a red flag?

Also, any comments regarding using Owens Corning Duration architectural asphalt shingles versus CertainTeed Landmark asphalt shingles would be greatly appreciated.

I have heard that Certainteed shingles have more of a potential algae growth problem but that they are a heavier and therefore more desirable shingle then Owens Corning.

Did you check with Consumer Reports, roof replacements are typically 15 to 20 years and lots of thing change over that time. Good luck with your quest.

I would recommend McGinnis. I don't think the brand of shingles matters very much. Verify that whoever you hire has a Florida roofing license by looking them up on the Florida license lookup website. Do not pay anyone any money in advance. A good roofer will do the job and charge you after it is completed. Good luck.

If this is an insurance replacement DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE sign an ASSIGNMENT OF BENFITS clause, if you do ypou loose all control of your project.

SPS did our roof without hesitation I highly recommend them. Scott the owner is a great honest hardworking man with integrity.

It doesn't matter if you use 20, 30, or 50 year shingles. The roof will need to be replaced in 15 years or less anyway. Unless you put on a metal roof. There are some in TV already, and they used metal shingles. Extremely attractive and will almost outlive the home. Of course, $$$

We used McHale roofing to correct underlayment issue from defective Tamko product. No issues, no hassle, cleanup was excellent. Wound not hesitate to use again.

McHale replaced two roofs for us in the last 2 or 3 years. Very good experience. Highly recommended.

We had a really bad leak problem last year during the rainy season, called Scotts expecting a new roof, but when they examined the roof and the leak area they found that the roof had been stapled and the staples were rising up with the heat. They did a roof repair, very very reasonable, and all has been good since then.

Honest, fair and reliable.
