If that is a real persian, it should be dry cleaned. Check the yellow pages or call a dealer.

Cyrus Rug Gallery used to clean rugs but I think they went out of business. Maybe call Foxy Rug on 441 just north of Hwy 42. Perhaps they will know who to call.

Be VERY careful if you decide to do this yourself. You need to be very careful along the edges where these are typically knotted. Send me PM if you want the gory details.

I have no intention of cleaning it myself. That's why I asked for recommendations for professional cleaner.

We had a fellow come to the house and dry clean a couple of rugs last September

one was a 9 x 12 hand woven wool rug from Turkey that we purchased about ten years ago when we were in Istanbul....we were very pleased with the results

we were not interested in having him clean a silk Turkish rug that we had also purchased in Turkey as it gets little traffic and we had had a rug dealer clean it five years ago before we relocated to FL. This fellow did examine the silk rug and clearly stated that that rug would have had to be taken back to his company and dry cleaned there under controlled conditions to avoid the colors running

The company is called Dry-Concepts...established in 1978. They are located in Davie, FL (near Ft Lauderdale) and Orlando however they had a technician that lived in or near Leesburg that was trying to develop clients up here in TV as that would be closer to home for him....800.248.5071 is the phone number on the invoice

Thank you, davem4616, it seems there are few companies in this area that do this kind of work. I shall try to contact Dry-Concepts. Have a good weekend!

Carla, thanks for the info.
Dropped my rug off yesterday. Cyrus Gallery is (so far) still in business. However they are winding down their retail business.
But they have no intention of getting out of the cleaning business....they are the only one around. That business is going well.

I did my own. I got a 3x5' Pakistani hand-knotted wool rug in 1985, and finally got around to cleaning it properly just last year for the first time. It was a pain to clean, and definitely a process. It isn't 100% clean even still, I know if I had it done professionally it would be better. But it's a whole lot better than it was.

In hindsight I probably would've priced it out and gotten it done professionally. I still might, in another 5 years or so.

Fourpar will you report on how carpet came out please. I have two fairly old carpets from Afghanistan that need to be cleaned. Had a great place in Tampa but of course would love something closer.

Mudder,
I will do that. My carpet is a Persian, Kerman 9 X 12. People at Cyrus told me at great length what their procedures were in cleaning, without damaging, it. And it will take 4-5 weeks. I'll jot down a self reminder to let you know how it turns out.
