I just moved here from Louisiana and used North American Van Lines. I did the packing, they came in and wrapped the furniture with pads and blankets, plus I had them wrap a few large mirrors in cartons. Everything arrived in good condition and I couldn't believe they could get that huge 53ft truck into Bonnybrook CYV's to deliver...quite a driver!! They did come a day later than originally planned as I had a small load and they picked up another in route, but it actually worked out better for me. Don't know who their agent is here locally but you can GOOGLE it and they will probably pop up. Best of luck on your move to VA.

Don't know if there really is one. Our mover's were a nightmare and I have heard similar stories from others having the same experience with other companies. So much depends on the driver....regardless of company. I could not recommend one and we have used all the big national ones for moves over the ywars.

It is all about the driver and crew. Ask if they are all employees or if the driver picks up the packers on corners! Real important!

We've used Allied to move cross country twice. No issues either time. First was a corporate move - they packed and moved everything. Second time was last month when we moved to TV. We packed all our own boxes and they wrapped the furniture. Everything was on schedule and as promised. They loaded us one Friday and delivered the next Friday. They gave us a window for delivery when we got the quote, but we didn't get the confirmed delivery date until they loaded us. Not sure it would have made any difference, but our driver was from Tampa so I'm sure he was happy to be headed home right before Thanksgiving.

You can use PODs or SAMs, big containers that can be loaded from this end by you OR people you can hire here and unloaded on the other end by people you hire there.

I just had all of my belongings moved from TV to New Hampshire. I highly recommend Mayflower. John Niedojdlo. owner/operator Tel. 800/668-3808. Very satisfied with the service.

I you have or join AAA - they offer a relocation service and will send out 4 major companies for quotes....while interstate shipping rates are governed by fed rules and rates are based mainly on weight....through AAA you get certain perks, like $100,000 full cost/repair/replacement of damaged or lost goods and you might some other breaks.
