Please share any recommendations on removing these awful popcorn ceilings. I know of several people who want there's removed too. Are they still installing this type ceiling in the new homes? Surely not. that is truly the only thing I do not like about my CY Villa.

Default Popcorn removal

Call Scott Pollard with Performance Drywall for popcorn removal. He removed that nasty stuff from two of my houses and did a great job and did a fantastic cleanup after. He dis a knock down ceiling on both houses but I'm sure he can do smooth. He can be contacted at 352-266-3350 or 352-266-1897.

We had Rick Basile of Basile Drywall Repair remove our popcorn ceiling and replaced it with a knockdown finish. He did a fine job. He advertises on here under contractors. Phone # 352-274-2396

Popcorn ceilings do not necessarily need to be removed to be nice looking. My hubby used a special roller to paint over this kind of ceiling! The roller (cylinder part) looks like the old pink sponge curlers of the 60's. This roller can be found in Home Depot paint department for about $8.
It has slices in it to allow it to roll evenly . The secret is to not press ( push on) while rolling. Do not roll too many times in one area( over and over same location) Let ceiling dry . The next day look at it ,have a helper look too, then just go over the places that you missed. P M if you need more info.

Knock down is just another word for a rough surface with valleys in it not smooth.

Knock down is the modern version of popcorn, but it's easier to install than smooth and easier to paint. Like popcorn it's sprayed on, but you trowel the finish. It hides imperfections and seam tape better than a smooth finish and if your tape pops through, you can come back, repair it, and add more knockdown--much easier than redoing a smooth finish. I've done them all and I'm a big fan of knockdown in my older years. I still do smooth just to prove I'm still good at it, but in TV I will be hiring someone.

I moved here in 2006 and laughed when I found my house had popcorn ceilings because they went out in the early 1980's. I bought new home in Des Moines Iowa and the contractor finished the garage completely ceilings etc. We had knock down ceilings in the house and even in the garage. InIowa they called them executive ceilings.

When I did my walk through here I was shocked to find popcorn. I asked the contractor to re-do the ceilings before we moved in. he refused and said he would not do it for less than $5,000. I waited until we moved in and found a guy who did the whole house for $1200

Would like to know about how much a square foot replacement costs.
I'm tired of my popcorn. Gets stuck in my teeth too.

The second picture is of a knockdown ceiling. We have them and like them very much.

You also might want to call Mike Gillespie. He and his assistant, Donald, just removed a closet for us, did a fine job and at a good price. Without going into too much detail, I asked Mike to remove the closet and do everything but the painting, which I would do myself. He started and completed the job when promised but when I painted, I noticed a couple of areas I wasn't completely satisfied with so I called Mike. As a true professional, he was here the next business day to resolve my issue. (There aren't too many contractors out there that will respond so quickly once they have been paid but Mike did and I give him high marks for that)

Give him a call:

Do a search for "popcorn removal". Click Search at the top of this page for past posts. Lots of info on it.

I used Rick Basile (352) 274-2396 with great results. What a difference with the popcorn gone and a knockdown finish!
