We had them installed on our lanai. They help tremendously in blocking the morning sun coming in and heating our living room. We have the non-motorized shades, the cost of which was approx $1,200. I consider it a great investment.

Us too. Evening sun. Home Depot made and installed. Ours are black. There are different levels of blocking, but the more blocking the less air comes through.

We had motorized outside shades at our other house then put inside shades for our new house. Spend the extra money for the outside power shades. They do a much better job of keeping the heat out.

We made our own many years ago and they are still going strong. We bought Coolaroo fabric online for a few hundred dollars and sewed it to make hems and a sleeve on the bottom in which we put a piece of conduit to weight it down and around which it will roll up. Some cords and pulleys provide the motive power. Installed on inside of the screen. Marine twist tabs help hold it to the wall at the sides in a breeze.
