A sign in the front door window stating "Beware of the Boa Constrictor" could do the trick... and ya can't beat the price! :D

Thanks for this thread! I have been meaning to start one myself. It's nice to have security information in one thread. I'll be adding an alarm system, and will be getting estimates and details soon.

Dogs didn't work for one of the latest incidents - Bridgeport Miona for instance, where occupants were sleeping and had TWO dogs. Perhaps intruders carried steaks or pork chops with them, but neither dog bothered to alert their sleeping humans!

Has anyone installed Safesliders on their sliding glass doors? Or any other kind of device? Trying to figure out my best option since I have a four panels stacking sliding glass door. Thanks.

Doug -- You beat me to it! Yes, dogs are not only the best protection but give you the quickest response. There's nothing like a team effort, too. One caveat, however . . . I would not be so quick to broadcast their names.

I am investigating alternatives for a similar set of stacking sliders. Their configuration does not allow using the usual "pole" or rod type.

One I am seriously considering is using the pin locks shown here:
Prime-Line Sliding Patio Door Pin Lock, with Retaining Ball, Chrome Plated-S 4066 at The Home Depot

My set up would require 4 of them and I have figured the top right corner or each panel the best location. This would require drilling a hole in each location one of these is to be used.
One could get away with using just one in the upper right most corner.

I am installing a Front Point security system and am waiting to actually test the motion sensing and glass break features. If I am satisfied they work as advertised I will not add the hardware alternative above.

What is a Safe Slider, never heard the term. We have stacking sliders and a 4 year old could break in. When we first arrived in September I saw an ad for an improved lock, did not cut it out and have not seen it since!

If you have a pool or spa law requires an alarm owing to the safety for children I know for a fact

Let me know how you like the FrontPoint system....we should receive ours in a few days.

Protect America was far less expensive than ADT. First off a savings of $295 installation. A guaranteed no price increase unlike ADT. Less per month for more equipment. Super customer service and very simple to install.

FYI
My computer security system put up a big red flag when I clicked the link provided stating the site has been found to be "UNSAFE".

For those who already have alarm systems, do you know what the permits are required in Sumpter County for alarm systems? Most Cities/Counties require you to have a permit for a MONITORED alarm system. Any info on this is appreciated!

Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for!

Look for the companies that offer infra red motion detectors that work on a heat signature of a body mass.

Front Points motion detectors (infra red) allow for 40-ish pound pets to roam a monitored area.

I am sure there are other companies as well....just be sure to ask what kind are provided.
