I have done zero maintenance on my gutters. Although, I don't have any leaf issues.

Just went through the process on a Premier Home
 

We will be closing on our new home in Shady Brook in April. As we were going through the design phase, the homes come standard with gutters and downspouts across the fron of the home ONLY.

We were advised to opt out of those gutters and downspouts and then after closing have the gutters and downspouts installed around the entire home so that they match, and as it turns out it is less expensive than adding the rest of the gutters to the home order.

I think many new builds will eventually have them after closing for the same reason

My house was new in 2012 and had gutters when purchased.

10 yeas no gutters and no problem. Little ground erosion where water drips. Could put gravel there but no need.
The key is good drainage around the home and no basement.

we put oversized gutters around lanai, entrance way and patios. the rest is gutterless, though over the garage doors is still being debated. . Also can save rain water with a diverter to a rain water barrel for reuse if you really want to help the environment.

Must not have a large over hanging oak tree like we have. Tried leaf filter(not the brand) and it took 2-3 weeks for the leaves to build up and no/very little water went into gutter.

Save money and you can sell a home a bit cheaper. (Satire)

Gutters
 

I bought a Courtyard Villa in late 2024 and it did not have gutters. I had them installed.

Not all courtyard villas have gutters, but many of them do. I don't know what criteria they use, but they are still showing photos of new courtyard villas with gutters.

It was made by an aluminum fabrication company, a small operation back in PA. They designed and built the leaf stuff themselves.

Maybe there are such places in Florida as well. Made it far cheaper than the big names.

There were several large oaks. The type of tree surely makes a difference.

Water was not flowing evenly off of our roof (Veranda Mason model) during the daily summer rainstorms. It was pouring off in specific locations like a roaring waterfall. 6” gutters stopped that and now we have no run off. Our downspouts drain through an underground pipe with pop-up drains in the planters where we have gravel/rocks. Works great for us!

With no basements, gutters are not needed.

Bologna…that’s why so many have to have them installed :a20: Air conditioning isn’t needed either, but we all like to have it. Irrigation isn’t needed either, but we all like green grass (well most of us). Lanai screens aren’t needed, but some don’t like snakes or bugs (especially Florida Mosquitoes).

You gave reasons why AC, irrigation, and screens are needed. Why are gutters needed, why do so many have to have them installed? (and I'm sure lunch meat has nothing do with it)

Several reasons
 

Reasons:
1) They prolong the life of the home’s exterior and interior controlling weathering and water runoff.
2) As another poster posted…”Termite control”. Of course those buggers like wet ground and wood debris
3) Soil erosion is controlled and problems are diverted

Personal preference! Some use rain water off of roof to water shrubs, others want rain water away from house! Some have gutters, downspouts with lines run to specific area with pop ups.

Does it matter
 

We put gutters on right after we moved in. I think we used Larry’s. They did a good job. It was about 1200 bucks. I too don’t understand why gutters aren’t put on every house. The basement argument is a farce. Other things happen.
