The good news....They did a very good job of covering the event.

The bad news....easily more than half of those on camera or in the crowd did not wear a mask.

One could only reach one conclusion from watching the video...most residents do not subscribe to wearing a mask (translated.....they don't give a (bleep) about containing the virus!!)

Surprise, surprise! Are you shocked?

I for one don't trust that masks work. Just look at the various "masks" people wear. They're not medical grade. I wear something to avoid confrontations with those who lack self control in public and try to avoid large crowds of people I don't know or with whom I don't regularly socialize.

The problem is your heart disease or cancer won't kill my mother in a nursing home, your catching the virus and transmitting it to someone else, who transmits it to someone else just may kill her.

We went from "avoid the virus" to "prevent the spread" to "slow the spread" and now we are all (most) indoctrinated into wearing a mask as if it is normal.

Here's the truth: Coronavirus Likely Will Infect Us All. Lockdown is Delaying the Inevitable.

www[dot]acsh[dot]org/news/2020/05/11/coronavirus-likely-will-infect-us-all-lockdown-delaying-inevitable-14779

We have the flu every year like clockwork even though "we have a vaccine". Lockdowns are nonsense. Masks do nothing to change the eventual outcome. In fact, they prevent herd immunity that so many people say they have as a goal. You can't become immune if you aren't exposed.

Take your mask off. Go out to eat. Sing at church.

If you are at risk or immune compromised, don't do any of that stuff.

But, don't think that wearing a mask is doing anything except ruining our lives (our economy, our country, etc).

That's it. Move one.

The NY Times reports 70,000 new infections in a single day. Good! Let's get it up to 700,000 or 7,000,000 per day and get this thing over with.

Reminder: for the vast majority of the population (97+%), this is a non-event. Infection does not mean death. For some it doesn't even mean "sick". For most, it's just like the flu. And, we've never shut down the country or the economy because of the flu.

Shocked at people not wearing masks? You're part of the problem.

Personal and Social Activities | COVID-19 | CDC

You have a lot of people shouting at these kind of events which is encouraged by the host. Not discouraged.

Wear a mask when interacting with other people to minimize the risk of transmitting the virus.
Quote:

Wearing masks is most important when social distancing is difficult.
Masks are strongly encouraged in settings where individuals might raise their voices, such as shouting, chanting, or singing.

Avella75 10-24-2020 08:21 AM

Great to watch the enthusiasm people have for the country.

Taltarzac725 10-24-2020 08:24 AM

Tell that to the almost 224,000 people who have died from this here in the US.

Relax people!! Don't give in the the Biden Doom and Glooom.

South Dakota just passed over 1,000 new cases yesterday and added 9 more deaths, the virus is exploding in South Dakota as well as the adjacent states. The South Dakota Positivity Rate was 21% yesterday. Coronavirus updates and information

Masks were required in order to pass through security, masks were given out all day. People in bleachers were for the most part, military families who had preferential treatment, they earned it!

We all know that number has been inflated by counting anyone who died and had the virus as having died "with" the virus but not necessarily because of the virus.

80,000+ die each year of the flu and that's with a vaccine. So, an additional 144,000 died. That's an additional 0.0004 of the population or 0.04%.

And for that we ruined the economy and shut down the country? Stupid stupid stupid.

So, millions and millions of people have lost their jobs, homes, careers, savings, more broken families, abuse, suicides for the few that are vulnerable to this? This is not meant to sound uncaring. But, why are the lives of those who die from the virus substantially more important than those millions who have "died" in economically or in so many other ways.

It's beyond stupid. Spread the virus - get it over with. You want herd immunity? You have to INFECT the herd.

charlieo1126@gmail.com 10-24-2020 08:42 AM

Couple of 100 texts messages from friends all over some laughing, some appalled but most pleading me to stay in house for a week so as not to get caught in the super spread

Theoptimiser 10-24-2020 08:49 AM

Don’t you people grow tired of criticizing others. If you’re worried about people not wearing a mask, then stay home and avoid life. As for senior women acting like teenagers, so what? There is no age limit on having fun or enjoying yourself. This country can’t survive with people covered in plastic wrap.

The 85% figure is a misrepresentation of what was actually said in the CDC study. See following link for explanation:

CDC reported the US now has 300,000 more deaths this year than an average year, so if anything they're undercounting. Please stop watching Fox News and spreading propoganda.
U.S. reports about 300,000 more deaths during pandemic than in typical year | Reuters

sooziesoul 10-24-2020 08:53 AM

You do realize that some people on which the vaccine has been tested, have died. I’ll let others try it first.

Lottoguy 10-24-2020 09:24 AM

If any past rally is a indication there will be a increase in cases. They have been watching this for the past month. Expect more cases in the next week or so.

Lottoguy 10-24-2020 09:28 AM

Time will tell if a spike happens. If it does, then we know who to blame. If it doesn't then we know more about crowds and the virus.

Lottoguy 10-24-2020 09:30 AM

They are not required because of the governor and his connection to DC. It's that simple.

They wear a mask to protect you, you wear a mask to protect them. That’s how this works.

billethkid 10-24-2020 09:37 AM

Decent amount of interest in the commentary.

It still amuses me that some just will not accept there is another view of the world....different from theirs....and instead of allowing other opinions, they feel the need to demean others who think differently.

The mix is true to pattern. For example flu shots. Approximately 50% do not get the shot for various reasons/beliefs....just like wearing a mask (or not).

And once again for those inclined to always refer to it....fear has nothing to do with doing something or not!!!

Slapnut 10-24-2020 09:38 AM

You can't shut down the economy again. Cases are rising because of more testing. What are scaredy cats like you going to do during flu season? Get a grip and realize that the fake media are doing a good job of scaring people like you

golfgal44 10-24-2020 09:39 AM

Of course. You don’t think they will show the positive, do you?

Time will be the determinant.

That last I looked we still live in a free country where choices like masks or not are an Individual choice. I choose to wear a mask but let’s respect the others who choose not to wear masks. Just take care of yourself.

So far three companies have Halted they’re testing for the vaccine, due to complications.
Did I miss somewhere that those not in the placebo group have died from the vaccine? Was it in the US or Europe?

cherylncliff 10-24-2020 09:57 AM

Watch for a spike in cases over the next 2 weeks. Seems a shame that the very people likely to get sick are also the ones who are against vote by mail. The really sad thing is that now they will spread it through the rest of our vulnerable community. Interestingly the paper today glorified the rally where I am sure trump claimed we have turned the corner while the article just to the left of the headline talked about a major new spike in cases. I wonder whom we should believe?

Cathy heineken 10-24-2020 10:09 AM

I think your view is not fair. I really, really, really, wanted to go but didn't. I am 80, have a pacemaker and both of the other amazing people in our house also shouldn't be exposed. I know that people who say they are Republican or Democrat are not all cut precisely from the same cloth using the same pattern. Assuredly us older ones are formed with all kinds of views and beliefs that don't fit into someone's idea of what a "stay at home mother" or a "rocket scientist" or a "person with dough" or an "activist" is. Most Villagers are thinking, caring, extremely responsible people. I don't look down on those who went but I surely hope no one get's sick. I cannot tell you how close I was to getting in the golf cart and heading that way. On the same note, I KNOW that all people who join marches do not loot and burn. I know that. Please know that those with all kinds of views are found on both sides of the aisle. We have gotta stop hating and disliking folks for their politics.

I am a snowbird and up north and since July have been in my summer home in a very rural area. The population density here is 20 people per sq. mile. Bear in mind The Villages is over 4000 people per sq. mile. We have had 70 positive cases of covid19 from Jan to Oct (avg 7 per month)in the entire county. Never see a person in a store without a mask on or any large social gatherings. Bars are closed. We had a baptism at a local church Oct 11 attended by 50 - 75 people. Our covid19 positive count has increased to 112 (an increase of 42 in two weeks) with a forecast of 15 more in the next few days with all of the cases linked to attendance at the baptism. I shudder when I see pictures of people deliberately attending events like yesterday in TV with no social distancing for long periods of time. What sense does that make ? Usually I would be back in TV by now. I am dragging my feet and watching the TV hospitalization rate / bed availability rate for the next month.

what you see are the healthy people going on with their lives. those who are high risk want everything shut down to their standards. if you are healthy & want to get back to living, you are welcome to join us, mask-up if you like. if not-stay in & i will keep u in my prayers, as i do for many right now. but how silly to shame those of us on information that is unsteady, @ best. faux numbers, faulty test results, channel 10's report on how many tests were just 'discarded' with no conclusion, because they ALL came up positive, lol. your own judgement is the best call, & the squares are open:MOJE_whot:
