getting vaccinated seems pretty pointless to me if you still have to social distance and wear a mask

I agree. I do not think that the "Experts" are using good sense by telling everyone to get vaccinated and then tell them that they must continue to act the same as they did before vaccinated, as for protecting themselves. It certainly won't encourage folks to get a booster shot. If they tell you to wear a mask at all times for the next six months and then tell you that you should get another shot and possibly go through the side effects again, for what seems like nothing....I wonder how many will pass on the booster. Whether someone agrees with the premise or not, the idea is sure to float in some folks' minds. I don't think that the information coming from the "Experts" is the problem, but the LACK of information that should be coming from them is the problem.

Seems pretty sensible to me. You can't snap your fingers and suddenly, spontaneously, instantly 80% of the population is appropriately vaccinated. That takes awhile. Especially in areas where vaccines are still not available to 80% of the population. So you vaccinate, and continue to social distance and/or mask inside buildings that aren't your own, until 80% of the population has been vaccinated. At that point, you can assume herd immunity has kicked in, and everyone's good to go.

Why does anyone have an actual problem with that?

Which by the way was the message in the link provided by the OP....not what is being discussed.

I tell you the problem with that... if you step out and listen you will know that there is no way 80% of the population will be vaccinated unless a very undesirable form of government evolves and people are vaccinated at gun point.

So 80% of the population has to be vaccinated? How about 79%? Or maybe we need 81%. I don't believe that anyone actually knows when herd immunity kicks in if ever. So yes I have a problem with it.

Just remember that not everyone catches the flu that refuses the flu shot. I've refused it for 50 years and never had the flu. If I catch the flu in my twilight years, I guess it is my own fault. But, I accept the responsibility for it and do not blame others.

Gotta watch those pesky Lemmings. Look what happened last November.

A virus dies when it runs out of hosts. The more people who are vaccinated or contract Covid, the less population to infect remains. If those unaffected are in distance separated small pockets, the harder it becomes for the virus to expand. Herd Immunity will come just as it has for many other diseases.

Getting vaccinated is kind of like my Granddaughters school that had one child, 11 years old, allergic to peanut butter, so the entire school was banded from having peanut butter. Doesn't make a lot of sense.

I see where you are coming from but I also see it from another POV. I'm in the vulnerable age group that does not guarantee I would be asymptomatic or have mild symptoms if I contracted Covid. In other words, it is very possible I could die if I caught Covid. Having been vaccinated, that worry is no longer on my mind at all. If I contracted the virus, I am guaranteed to either have no or only mild symptoms of the disease. I'm so happy to have that piece of mind. Dying from Covid is not on my hit parade.

What side effects are you referring to? A fever? Body aches? All that last a day or two? What are we becoming, a bunch of wimps? For crying out loud, those "side effects" sure beat having to rely on a respirator to breathe.

OBB...... what are your feelings if we do not reach that very valuable safe herd immunity because of those folks who are vaccine hesitant and the folks who are out and out anti-vaxxers? I will have a very difficult time masking when these folks do nothing to help themselves for protection. That is when my mask comes off, herd immunity or not. If they won't help themselves, I'm not going to either. How do you feel about that?

That wasn't the point. The point was regarding whether or not folks will get the booster shot, IF they have to continue to wear a mask. The idea is "WHY" go to the trouble of getting the shots if it won't allow you to return to normal? Sure, eventually things will get better, but those that are hesitant about getting the two shots now, are certainly going to be hesitant about getting a booster if nothing changes for the better. What incentive is there? I know what you are going to say, but I inserted the rhetorical question anyway. "Wimp?" I see what you are saying, but some folks do not see the need to go through the flu-like symptoms that some get from the vaccination, if they MUST protect themselves as they did for the last year and a half before they received the shots.

I agree. I feel the same way with being told to get the vaccination because it is a must, patriotic, moral, ethical, etc. and then after getting the shot being told that I must continue to wear the mask in order to protect others. If they tell me that I must get a booster, then the mask comes off for good, period.
Protect yourselves. It's not your obligation to protect those that do not want to protect themselves.
