Irrespective of the statistics, Houston, we have a problem. And many Villagers should be ashamed of their behavior and their refusal to wear masks to protect the most vulnerable among us. Sadly, socially irresponsible actions are the norm for some here.

Reporter: Boss, Florida's new cases seems to be going down

Editor: No worries, we'll go with new deaths, use the scary charts, not the date of death ones scientists use.

Reporter: But if cases keep going down, won't the deaths come down in a few weeks?

Editor: No worries, we'll go back to scare stories about how schools are dangerous

Reporter: But European schools have been open with no problems, Sweden kept their schools open and had zero deaths under 19, only 53 covid cases per 100k teachers and they can't say they caught it in the classroom.

Editor: We'll keep that under wraps, the virus is different here and the teachers unions will come up with some bogus scare studies and we can promote day care for kids in empty classrooms with adult supervisors which is much safer.

Reporter: Okay then, as long as I keep getting my paycheck. When can I start writing good news stories?

Editor: After November
Good luck to you.

Total cases sounds dire . Total positive results. Cases sounds as if there hospital cases . Intentionally ? Yes . We are testing a lot plus didn’t all the experts say when you open up you will have more positive cases .? We ( Florida) opened up months ago compared to NY . Plus I don’t trust any numbers. To many people have a agenda .

If you do not do as they feel you should do, then you are putting others at risk and don't take responsibility for others. So, correct me if I am wrong in my understanding, but you all believe that it is my responsibility to keep you safe, even if you wish to be about your business like you are the only person allowed to posture about in public. If some such as me feel that the masks do some prevention, but are hardly adequate, then you feel that I am being a denier and not taking this seriously? News Flash, I HAVE lost a close relative to the virus and I do realize that it is dangerous. BUT, I am not going to allow some panic driven, hysterical, "sky is falling" know it alls to dictate what is a valid fact, just because it fits their political agenda. I'll take you seriously when I see you wearing a total bio-hazard suit when you are out shopping. Do not think you can shame me into wearing what you deem is acceptable and do not presume to think that you have the ONLY valid facts. Here's something else to think about; did you really think that anyone else thinks your medical safety is more important than their own? If one does not care about their own safety as much as you feel about yours, why should they be concerned about what you deem acceptable preventative attire?
The reason there is so much discussion about the validity of circulated stats provided by the media, is because they are often more wrong than right. Take for instance the local on line news rag that uses the Villages as a target for EVERY negative item of news real or made up in order to demean Villagers and the community EVERY day. Their headline will imply that there is a great wave of deaths in the Villages when their article actually gives stats for areas outside of the Villages. So, to defend them we have folks with a political agenda that say, "but we care about everyone, not just our own community." BS! Sorry, I meant to say that I call "BS" on your agenda.
No one is making light of this virus. We simply do not wish to see hysterical Betties running amok and scaring folks with "the sky is falling. It's the end of the world" when better minds are thinking logically and using common sense. If it makes you feel vindicated, then yes, you are correct in one point. I don't care as much about you as I do about myself or my family. Your safety is not my priority. Feel better now? Yes, I take this virus seriously, but I am not going to allow politics determine how I handle this. I am going to take this as just another little glitch or crisis to be added to others that we have had throughout history. We have had wars that have killed more people and we have also had other medical emergencies that have killed off more of the population. And we will likely have more of them in the future. If you can't handle this one without hysterics, then go bury your head in the sand or hide in your safe room until it is past.
If you are trying to prove that some don't care, try to understand that we do care.....just not about you right now.

Thanks to those on here that produce valid facts to back up their statements. Not that an opinion blog requires facts, but thank you for proving your fact based opinions. Too bad that some do not find your stats exaggerated enough to be worthy of their panic.

And to those that feel that Mr. Cain was negligent by not wearing his mask once, and that caused his death by virus, I have news for you. I know of one person that did ALL the right things and is still dead by virus. Your little placebo(mask) may or may not save you, but don't think that wearing a rain coat in a storm is going to keep you dry. It might keep you partially dry but you will still get wet.
Well said! I've asked the question and maybe you're the only one who answered it so far, "how many of the deaths did things right got the dreaded virus and still died?" I'm so sorry for your loss by the way. The fear that is going on around us is palpable. Critical thinking seems to have been side-lined with this thing and no one seems to question any of the information coming at us from seemingly all sides. I take the virus seriously and try to do my part of taking care of myself. I can't take care of anyone else nor should I point fingers on perceptions that may or may not be true. There may be VERY good reasons someone doesn't wear a mask. We all have an immune system and it's given to us for a reason.

As for pointing at Herman Cain and saying he did this or didn't do that---we don't know all of that for sure. The one point missed is at one time he had a diagnosis of Stage 4 prostate cancer. "They" said it was in remission and happened years ago but do we know that for sure. Cancer that was Stage 4 can come back OR it can weaken the body (or the treatments there-of) so it can't fight other things. He was also in his 70's. We don't know his other medical history. To use him or anyone as an example just doesn't fly. Each person is different in how their bodies react to illnesses, to drugs etc.

Had stage four colon cancer and apparently died of related pneumonia.

If you compare Sweden’s population of
10 million to Minnesota and Wisconsin
populations of 10 million you see Sweden had 3149 more deaths than Minnesota and Wisconsin combined .
Not sure that is doing better than these
2 US states if you value a human life .

What is your source for that? Every single article I found online says that he died after a battle with the coronavirus/Covid-19.

As a retired MD I couldn’t agree more. Preventive
Masking and distancing are the solution. Be educated, Be aware, and take care and Precautions. It’s not difficult. Save yourself, Save your friends.
