China's 21-TON rocket set for uncontrolled reentry in a few days

China’s 21-ton Long March 5b rocket is orbiting the planet in a path that could lead to the massive vehicle crashing back to Earth within the next few days, experts warn.

The core stage launched Thursday to deliver the first modular of the nation’s new space station, but instead of returning to a pre-determined post in the ocean, it is predicted to make an uncontrolled reentry - and possibly in an inhabited area.

When the rocket stage falls to Earth, most of it could burn up in the atmosphere, but large pieces could survive that could rain down on populated areas - as the range is nearly 80 percent of the globe.

Space debris trackers observed it moving slowly and unpredictably to Earth over the past few days, and reentry of the vehicle would be one of the largest uncontrolled descents on record.

Long March 5B is about 100 feet long and 16 feet wide and although more than 10 tons of space debris has been left in orbit for an uncontrolled reentry, McDowell said that ‘by current standards it's unacceptable to let it reenter uncontrolled.’

Is coming nowhere near Florida no less TV. And even if it was directly aimed for TV, it will most likely burn up upon entry. So, relax, go have a drink at the square

The average person doesn't want to know how much trash is orbiting the earth. I am amazed that there isn't much more damage to satellites.

I am guessing they will have a much better prediction in the next few days.
Thanks for posting this. The originator posted/quoted, "Space debris trackers observed it moving slowly and unpredictably..."

1) It's not moving slowly... just below orbital speed 7 kilometers per hour (4.35 mph)
2) It's not moving unpredictably... the orbit is defined. The re-entry location is what is unpredictable.

If anyone is really concerned about the possible re-entry point, they can create an account at https://www.space-track.org/ to see the ground track and updates.

Perhaps, a solution would be a lazer in space. Who would pay for it? Would the rest of the world trust us? Would we trust other countries? Will it lead to a space arms race?

Issues, problems are too common. Solutions tend to be too rare and difficult to actually do.
Forget trusting the rest of the world. The way things are today, would WE even trust US? 😱

We've trashed our planet so now we leave trash and debris in orbit.

Let’s say you have 3 or 4 hours when you find out it may hit somewhere in the central fl area , are you really going to try to jump on the FL turnpike or I 75 to get out of area , I for one would take my chances on staying put then fight the chaos on the road , that’s why I would rather they just don’t tell us lol

Actually they don’t know where all of their junk will hit when it does re-enter earth’s atmosphere. After all it is Chinese made, LOL.
