How about this...BAN ALL ASSAULT WEAPONS. THEY ARE MADE FOR THE MILITARY. THEY CAN'T BE USED FOR HUNTING, SPORT SHOOTING OR ANTHING OTHER THAN SHOOTING TO KILL AS MANY VICTIMS IN AS SHORT A TIME AS POSSIBLE.WE ARE THE ONLY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD WHO HAS THIS PROBLEM HAPPEN ALL THE TIME.

It’s very simple. The USA has the highest per capita gun ownership of any other country on the planet. Thereby, by your logic, the USA should be by far the safest country to live on the planet. That is not true. It’s not even close to being true. Consequently, your logic is flawed.

Another thing many like to cherry pick….”Chicago with the strongest gun laws…” Strong gun laws mean nothing in overall statistics, when anyone can drive a few miles to another nearby state and get their weapons with less strict gun laws. Thereby, cancelling out any statistical value to one small area having strict gun laws. It becomes irrelevant, unless all are following the same strict laws. Like our forefathers implied, I’m all for every citizen of the USA to carry a musket. No problem at all. I am against any citizen owning a gun that enables them to kill “faster” without reloading using bullets that explode inside a persons body Lessing their survivability, and it decapitating childrens heads. This type of weaponry is absurd to be accessible by someone not trained and lack maturity to handle them.

We have close to four hundred million people in the country. Many of these came from countries where violence is a way of life. The US is the New York Yankees of the world. We should choose who we allow to immigrate into the US. Not ONLY look for rocket scientists, but people looking for a better life who show that they will add to the country. Bring something positive. Hard worker, tight family ties, overcame hardships etc.. The thousands of MS13, Latin Kings that we let enter and move freely throughout the country is a recipe for disaster. We will still have the mental health issues shootings unfortunately.

That is not hard to answer population density - Chicago has more people that most red states. And Wyoming has what 13 people?

Now, for you, how do you explain that 7 of the top 10 states for murder rates have are Red states with the least gun control, and 3 of the top 10 have the strictest gun control?

You are conflating two things - legal immigration and sanitary seekers. If you don't want immigrants then pass laws outlawing immigration. If you don't want to get people sanctuary then change the law that lets them in.

And how many "illegal immigrants" have been involved in mass shootings? Just curious.

I object to the generalized casting character of America and what she is and who lives there and what they do based on a current incident.....and in the current climate....shootings are the "measure".....only because all too many do nothing more than parrot the media (and their agenda).

We Americans as a whole are not what the media and the parrots prefer to portray!!

We have a social medical ( not private as in USA) and pension system (just like your SS system) which we pay for in taxes etc.
We are as capitalist as USA in our business dealings, and nearly all other services are private businesses, and like the US, we get no free dinners!
You really need to update your take on Socialism, Communism and Capitalism statements.

Eight of the top ten states for murder rates have the least gun control, Illinois is not in the top 10.

I see some very good responses to this question, which in my opinion is not a political issue but a social issue. But the NRA and its adherents turned it into a political one.

Face it, folks, we were born in violence and we are dying in violence. We had a bloody Civil War during which half a million combatants were killed -- more than all the rest of our wars put together. And it seems we are moving in that direction now unless some sanity returns to our leaders and the fighting stops.

People need to realize that our leaders set an example that subconsciously affects the people they serve and when you have leaders that are mentally ill, you get what we have now.

If guns were more tightly controlled EVERYWHERE then they couldnt get them in chicago as easily as driving a few miles away as they do now. What other civilized country has the shooting that we have. NONE by a long shot. We need more more more gun control

21.5 Million concealed carry permits. These are the guns which are legally carried outside the home. 45 states have open carry, however it is rare to see folks carrying openly in public.
Maybe if more people carried there would be fewer criminals willing to attempt public gun crimes...
My personal belief is we all have a personal responsibility for our own safety.

With 400 million people we will always have shootings. We can trade freedoms for safety. I would think that is something many would find unacceptable. In NYC we had stop and frisk (done away when DeBlasio was mayor). It was extremely effective in reducing shootings. It was also far from what I expect or want in a free country. Taking place in high crime areas such as Washington Heights, the great majority of people stopped were minorities who lived there. Innocent people, a Dominican Dad working the late shift to support his family would be hassled and frisked because he was on the street at night returning from his job. Same situation as many call for now, restrict the rights of law abiding citizen gun holders in the name of reducing crime. Actions like stop and frisk, gun bans, will reduce crimes but at what cost. Both are unacceptable.
To control the shootings and decrease crime, elect/appoint DAs who will prosecute crime. Get a tighter control on immigration. Realize that diversity on its own is not automatically a positive. Bringing in people from diverse backgrounds is great, but if they do not melt into one people it is not. Countries with a national character, homogenous countries like Japan have lower crime. Punishing law abiding people in the name of increased safety is not something I am willing to accept.
