Only reason I post about this is because, I personally was "jumped on" during at least one thread because a few posters felt the flag was disrespected by folks but were specific, when pointed out to them, that using this persons likeness as was done any number of times, at rallies, etc. was fine. Those posters made sure they came "at me".

So, I openly admit it is personal, because it is a hypocritical position.

I might add that seeing you ask for proof of anything is quite humorous.

You could have just as easily said, "No, I don't have proof"...

She doesn't hate this country...she just wants a different flag, to be more inclusive.

And...no,, I didn't say I hate vets.. do they have issues...yes,, since you asked..
I listed many reasons, but I just erased them bc I know that just bc the vet I am talking with came across as negative, all vets are not that way.

And exactly how is the current US Flag not "inclusive" (aka, the new "catch phrase of the week)?

That's not the post you responded to. You responded to his initial post, where he said nothing of the sort...

TV Land DOES have a middle class because of the economics from when they had maximum earning capacity - primarily the fact that UNIONS still existed then. People self-selecting to locate here are more likely to be more active and adventurous - qualities that would likely lead to higher wages and salary when they WERE working. Many of them have PENSIONS, which barely exist now. So yes, TV Land has a middle class. But, today America is a land of haves and have NOTS! Very little in between. And I explained WHY in my previous post.

Odd... I was never in a union, nor was I offered a pension... Just what I manages to save on my own...

It’s one thing to disagree with someone else who posts on TOTV, but when you start disagreeing with yourself - you’re in real trouble…

The law means something to me. And the flag doesn't mean anything to me, it's just cloth. HOWEVER I recognize that it does mean something to a lot of other people, and I respect their right to feel loyalty to the flag even though I feel no such thing toward what I perceive as a piece of cloth.

As such, I also recognize that IF you are going to proclaim yourself a patriot and raise the flag of the United States, you should do it correctly. Or, don't do it at all.

Have a little respect for what you CLAIM to love. Or admit you don't really give a damn about the flag, you just want to pretend to conform to some kind of social nicety that you think might buy your ticket to patriot heaven or something.

It is very satisfying.

To conjure up emphasis regarding your position on "the flag" you demote it to being "...just a piece of cloth...".

Your choice however, a poor choice of words given what the flag.... not the piece of cloth....THE FLAG...... means to most people.

To reduce it to "...just a piece of cloth..." to make your point, implies we ignore all of what the flag represents.

Some of us think you full well know that!! (IMHO)

I'm just not a flag person. Perhaps it's my Jewish upbringing. But we were indoctrinated as children to never worship "things." I don't pay respects to flags, or any other inanimate object. I don't kneel to pray, I didn't kneel when I got married, we don't kneel in synagogue except when we invoke the Lord's name in a very specific invocation. And we don't worship or revere things.

I love my country. The flag, I'm just ambivalent about. Seeing tons of flags flying doesn't stir me to patriotism, and seeing them missing doesn't make me feel any less love for the USA. I don't need a flag of ANY kind to love America.

No one is asking u to worship the flag. Just respect it and what it stands for

I don't need a flag to respect what it stands for. Just like I don't need a church to pray to god. I just pray, directly. God doesn't need me to be in a particular setting, or talk through a priest on my behalf.

The USA doesn't need people to fly flags in its honor. It will stand, or it will fall, with or without a flag. Not because of a flag.

If you want to fly a flag, then fly one. If it means something to you to do that, then you should absolutely do it. But do it correctly. Otherwise, YOU are the one being disrespectful.

It’s always funny when others instruct us on exactly why we feel the way we do, whys it’s incorrect but do it if we must.

The American flag represents so much more than you are capable of comprehending when we gaze upon it. It is the symbol of freedom, lives lost through wars, the tenacity of this Republic to get it right even though at times we struggle. God bless America!

BTW, didn’t you mean synagogue and rabbi:icon_wink:

Maybe cause you never got drafted, shot at defending it, or wasn’t brought up respecting flag or America ?

It’s never going to be enough.
