When you loose billions of dollars by miss-management Either you change or go out of business. O wait This federal government business model! when you have more managers than workers everything over managed or not enough grunts to do job. Get people out of offices and do primary job.

Sad that govt see no reason to make the post office more efficient either by how they buy equipment or how they employ people to do the actual work of moving mail along.

I can't find a pay phone either...

The USPS is a service that works well for rural citizens, veterans getting their scrips from the VA, and many others. I don't mind paying for it. No other Federal agency is required to make a profit, why should the USPS be required to?

Our parents are in late 80s, post office less than a mile away. Last time they were at the post office was 2 years ago, because parking lot at meat market was full.

They pay bills And bank online , ship prepaid packages from their front door. I don’t think we have mailed or bought stamps in more than 5 years

Maybe the USPO is not required to make a profit,
but it should be required to run efficiently.

Boxes are being removed because, with the advent of email, online banking and other technological advances there is less and less need for physical mail.

It's been going on for a long time.

The “Pony Express” has been limping along for many years. Lots of blame to go around. Then the coronavirus came along and mail in voting has been increased by the States because we are in the middle of a deadly pandemic. Now is no time to cut the funding of the USPS.

Funny posts.
How many pay phones are there now? I bet nobody walks to a mailbox in TV and if they do they use their golf carts so I guess you can go an extra half a mile do the actual post office or mail center. As to the condition of the post office blame your politicians we're squeezing all the money out of the system play insisting on then being able to pay pensions out to year 75
Social Security will go broke in 13 years but we'll still have mail. Oh and by the way if you insist on getting your mail picked up at your door just leave it there and use the internet to request a pickup it's a free service which I'm sure us cheap seniors will love. So to all the conspiracy that are on this board if you actually knew what was going on he'd be happy to have a real business person in charge of the mail service 2 get the efficiency up. Maybe if you would insist on the real cost a first-class postage being on fire to generate money to pay for machinery and the overtime you would understand how real business needs to work

Agreed. This is also why socialism does not work. Is the govt really going to do a better job controlling the entire economy and owning the means of production.

BTW I do walk about 0.6 miles most mornings to get the mail. And in my neighborhood at least a few more do so.

When I ask, “If those machines are suddenly so outdated and need to be removed, what would be the big deal about waiting just a little longer — you know, like maybe after the first of the year — and with a plan to replace them — so the PO would not be left completely hamstrung and flailing for the rest of 2020?”

Seems like, I can never get an answer from the excusers.

Do they not answer me because they are complicit?

Or do they not answer because they are so used to buying into egregious maneuvers that they are numb to what is happening right under their noses?

Or do they not answer because they have fallen hook, line, and sinker for whatever their favorite television channel plants in their brains?

Or is a hijacked amygdala their problem?

Or do they think it’s just fine to wipe one’s behind with the Constitution?

Whatever it is — I cannot seem to get an answer from the excusers as to why the timing of the attack on the PO must be NOW?

Hmmmm, whatever could it be?

Why can’t those who blithely excuse this transparent attack on the PO answer my simple question, — “Why now?”

Inquisitive Boomer

Well, here I am, quoting myself (geez). But it’s been a few days since I asked the question, “Why now?”

I still don’t have an answer. Maybe that’s because I segued the OP’s Facebook post into my asking for reasons why what is happening to the post office is happening at this time in history. Why now?

Nobody answered my question. And, oh my, I think someone implied that I must be a conspiracy theorist. Yeah, right.

Anyway, I started to get the feeling that I had been offensive by asking people to think about what is happening right under their noses and then give an explanation of why they think the timing of trying to hamstring the PO is OK.

But (sigh) no answer yet.

I hope you will read through my quote above, including the multiple choices of my thoughts about what could possibly be causing excusers to excuse. I really want to know how people can excuse the sudden attack on the PO. — Why now?

I remain,
Inquisitive Boomer

I don't know why but I know a lot of folks seem to manage to make things into something else in order to prop up their own way of thinking.

Not all English majors are political analysts.

There is not a rascal in every wood pile.

No matter how we think about mail in votes, we are going to have mail in votes and we are going to have an election.

However, afterward, both sides will say they won, lost, said elections because of the post office and or mail in votes.

I think said election will be won/lost because the really smart people in this country aren't running. They have all retired to The Villages.

The answer is in post number 13. It happens all the time only the press doesn't usually make an issue out of it.

I repeat the question raised by Boomer...why now ?

No reason at all. States, who control the process, have done a great job with the issue being raised, and never has the system left us down. Why now has not been replied to.

With all due respect Inquisitive Boomer, I think the answer to your question of "why now" is pretty obvious.
