We stopped getting it over a decade ago. We've had the flu a couple of times but we don't get that sick from it. I believe that natural immunity is far superior to vaccination whenever possible.

I also think that all of the hyper cleanliness, mask wearing and distancing is going to be terrible for people in the long run because it will weaken their immune system to even the most mild of bugs.

There might be something to this logic. It reminds me a bit of the Spartans:

β€œThe Spartan government was only interested in the best for its state, which meant that strong children were the only ones that would survive. Both baby girls and boys were put through initial tests to see if they were strong enough to be useful to the state. If a child did not pass these fitness or health tests, they would be left to die, outside of main living area of the state, typically in the wild, or in the mountains. Sparta was not a state to accept anything but the best, and this practise started at a young age.”

Natural herd immunity is protective to the group as a whole. Even having had a different coronavirus in the fairly recent past is thought by some to be protective towards this particular coronavirus. In other words, getting sick from the milder bugs helps to prevent you from getting very sick from the more aggressive bugs.

No one is suggesting sending the weak off to die in the woods. I apologize if it sounded that way.

I was a bit tongue in cheek, I knew that you were a wonderful parent from your other posts. It is true what you said the children who are never exposed to anything become the most susceptible.

I am afraid of this virus because so many can’t become immune to it but succumb fatally. You may be hearing my fears.

I'm 55 with a HS kid and a college kid living at home. They go to work, school, see friends, go to the beach, theme parks, football games and even go on road trip adventures to other states. I am so grateful that they are able to enjoy this time of their lives because this age won't last forever and they should be having fun. If they haven't gotten the virus by now they aren't going to get it. Ditto with me because I've been around them. I doubt that we will get the vaccine.

On the other hand, I have an 85 year old mom who lives in an independent living residence. I have to be much more careful around her. At first I did her errands for her and delivered them to her outside, no hugs. But when restrictions started to lift, she began to enjoy getting out and about again. We are very careful to avoid crowds, wear masks, socially distance, visit stores at less busy times. She does better when she gets sunlight, fresh air and a change of scene. Most of us do. She will likely want the vaccine.

So I have been routinely stepping between the relative freedom of the young and healthy and then on over to the fairly restrictive world of my mom. Different people have different needs. This is not a one size fits all. People can figure out if they want this vaccine all by themselves.

They don't yet know how long immunity from being infected will last. Same for the vaccine I think. So by the time it is available, Trump's immunity could be gone.

Storage requirements for the Pfizer vaccine is -70C, with max of 5 days at 2-8C prior to use.
Effectiveness of the vaccine depends on proper storage.
Having been in the vaccine/cold chain distribution business for 15 years, I expect this to be challenging for most facilities.

My doctor has told me absolutely no for me. Will need to wait to see if it is actually working and not giving the people the virus before he will let me get it. I do anything he says as he has my life in his hands.

If your Dr. actually suggested that the Pfizer vaccine can infect you with the coronavirus then you should be looking for a new Dr. The vaccine may, however, produce side effects and/or it may not be very effective.

As thinking the same 😜.

No live virus used to manufacture RNA vaccines, fingers crossed the are reasonably effective and safe.

Wouldn't hurt to ask our physicians if/when/what vaccine they will take and recommend for their staff/family.

I'll say this as gently as I can. Your doctor is an idiot. There is ZERO chance this vaccine can give people the virus. ZERO So either you are making up a story or you have a pathetically uninformed doctor who knows nothing about this vaccine and how it is produced. Call his office today as he has your life in his hands and ask for an explanation of how this vaccine can give you COVID. As he is such an excellent doctor you should post his name so we all can get the outstanding care he provides.

EDIT Ok one other possibility. You completely misunderstood what your doctor said.

Count me in the first group to get a vaccine. Keep in mind, there are multiple MRNA candidates coming on line quickly along with those using the more conventional vaccine production regimen. There will be choices!

And regarding those who say, "why bother, the immunity may not last long", you get a flu shot every year. Why? Because the immunity "doesn't last long" plus the virus mutates. The first SARS-Cov2 candidate out of the gate shows an effective rate of 90% . The typical yearly flu shot averages 60% effectiveness. I don't care if I have to get a shot every year. It's the price I willingly pay to lead a normal life.

The Pfizer vaccine uses RNA technology. If you are so inclined, there is plenty of information on the internet about RNA technology. Virus, live or dead, is not used to make this vaccine so there is zero chance of anyone contracting Covid from the vaccine. Side effects are another issue although, so far there have been no adverse serious side effects with the Pfizer vaccine trials. Looking really good so far. Sign me up! I'm ready to live life normally once again.
