The silliness of all this statue removals and name changing is getting in the way of the real message. Unfortunately the USA has had racism imbedded in our culture for hundreds of years. Even if we begin now, it will take generations to mute those habits and feelings. Changing statues, names, logos, etc. won’t help al that much.

No friggin way!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow...this is the last BS straw for me...my camel's back has now been totally broken

How stupid and how far over the hill will some elected officials bend to make sure that they absolutely do not offend anyone at any time any where at any time...even if they are misinformed on reality

Well, guess what Orange County, you have just offended me! I OBJECT. Does, my
voice count...or am I just too damn white? Okay I could have my son who lives in Orange county object...will that matter??? No you've made up your mind that John Wayne must go.

Stupid, dumb, idiotic, cowardice.... you are running scared of what??? You cowards!!!!

If California drops off the edge from a earthquake...I no longer care....good bye

If only (drop off the edge). The end for me was when the log flume ride at Disney was deemed inappropriate. Seriously?
And how about Princeton? Several presidents of the U.S. including Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama have been repeatedly referenced as continuing the tradition of Wilsonianism in America. Guess anything related to any of them needs to go too.
Costa Rica might be lookin' better and better

This is not the way to come to resolution. All it's doing is creating hate and discontent where there was none, and exacerbating the situation where it already existed (in my humble opinion). It's very sad to me, because people are going to be more 'broad brushed' than ever - in all directions. You can't change the past, you can only move forward in honest efforts.

Maybe they should rename all the airports. Just give them a number. “I’m flying out of Airport # 327 and landing at Airport # 723.” Then they can start on the State names and then the city names in the same way. Las Vegas Has dibs on City #69.

Agree.

Sad to me, too. Revisionism creates division and we don't need that right now.

If we want to improve over the past how does it help to remove all mentions of it?

We should study the past and understand what earlier times were like and how we are better as a nation and how we can continuously improve.

A system can not be changed until all vestiges of the previous system are completely erased. This started as protests against the police killing of George Floyd, but the current focus is to destroy our economic and governmental systems and anything that is representative of those systems. BLM is a Marxist organization. I'm not saying that, the co-founder (Patrisse Khan-Cullors) of that organization says that.

Funny, when I was about 30 I knew what kind of language was racist and was able to control my mouth. And he knew his words were being recorded and to be published which maybe might have made a person more reticent about expressing beliefs that in 1971 were already certain to be seen as racist. This is not a recollection of a chat he privately had with a couple of friends.

Facts are always fun. I have no idea what racist words Mr. Wayne may have uttered in his 30's but your posting of his age was a bit off. He was born in 1909 thus was in his early 60's when those words were spoken.

Wow who knew that John Wayne really was at the Alamo.:)

His movies did a lot of good for us during the war and he should be honored for that.

He was playing roles in films. His first wife, Josephine Saenz, had a hispanic last name, his widow, Pilar, is Peruvian and his second wife, Esperanza Bauer, was Mexican, born in Mexico City.

I'm with you my friend. I'm a big-time John Wayne fan. This is too ridiculous to believe even in these insane times.
I used to live near Disneyland in Orange County, Ca. I think now, the entire state of California has become a Disneyland.
This is not the first time "they" wanted to change the name of the airport. I'm just waiting till five o'clock to start my happy hour at my home bar. At least my mind can get a little rest for a few hours. WHEN WILL ALL THE INSANITY END?

I lived in Costa Rica for eighteen years and loved mostly everything. If things don't go right in November (God help us!), I may move back.

The “world wide web” and cameras everywhere where a few make all Americans look racist and ashamed. For example, a recent video taken in The Villages that has gone viral.
