Married again at 55. I insisted on a prenup. She has far more assets than I do. Couple reasons I insisted on one. I needed her to know that I don’t need nor do I care about her money. I have my own and I’m fine with what I have. And gave all the kids some peace of mind.
I agree with others here. If something were to happen between us I don’t see myself walking down the aisle again. |
Some of you picked up on the idea of "Live Close By, Visit Often" -- the song by K. T. Oslin that I referred to in my first post in this thread.
K. T. Oslin wrote and recorded "80's Ladies" which is probably familiar. She is now 78, looking back on a career of some liberating lyrics that were often a whole lot of fun. She wrote from the angle of a well-seasoned woman -- even titled one of her albums "Songs from an Aging Sex Bomb." I listened to a lot of country-western music back in the 90's. I like C-W songs because they tell a story. I am now linking "Live Close By, Visit Often" here for you, BUT, with a disclaimer: This link is from youtube and as we all know youtube gloms ads onto the beginning of every video and those ads change every time AND you usually can skip them. I have no control over what ad will pop up before this song. You could get a political ad or an underwear ad or some scary ad from the pharmaceutical industry. If you do not like the ad, do not blame me, just skip it and move on to the song. If you listen to these lyrics and this beat, you should find yourself smiling and maybe even bopping around a little. We could use some smiles around this joint lately. :) Here you have it, "Live Close By, Visit Often" by K. T. Oslin: Live Close By, Visit Often - YouTube |

Boomer, thank you for that link. Although I love country music and played in a few country bands to get though college I had never heard of K.T. Oslin. I looked her up and discovered she is just a few months younger than I am and worth $66M so she certainly has been successful! Her song says it all as far as I am concerned.
Some of my post marital experiences with women have been along this line which is one of the reasons why I choose to remain single and enjoying myself. SHELLY WEST JOSE CUERVO 1983 YouTube - YouTube In HS I loved this tune. It was "our song" with an early girlfriend who told her father about it. He said it was not very nice. She didn't care. Buddy Knox - Party Doll - YouTube Maybe I was just cut out to be a single guy. lol. |

If your goal is to make sure that your children get your inheritance, then I don't think a prenup is the best way to achieve it. You can set up a trust or just have separate bank accounts or make other financial arrangements. I think a prenup is more appropriate for younger people, where one spouse has a lot of money and wants to protect it from a nasty divorce. One problem with a prenup is that you must disclose all of your assets or the prenup can be challenged and nullified.

You mean old gold diggers? Why not just hire a nurse, a lot less trouble, in my opinion. If you marry for money, you better be prepared to dance for the piper!

That type of codependency...is certainly not unusual. It happens all of the time where a much younger male/female marries an older female/male for money and then has to put up with whatever the one that has the power/money wants...in the hope that they will eventually be rewarded for such. |
Nothing bothers me. I have been married twice!

In case you missed it — or are feeling nostalgic
Once upon a TOTV time, far, far away — about a week ago — there was a unique thread where nobody got snarky or hateful. (well, except for one post — that got deleted)
Although this thread was not specific to life in TV, it seemed to be of interest because the topic is certainly appropriate, and perhaps useful, to a “mature” audience, some quite knowledgeable about later in life marriages. AND, there was no agenda or pontificating or linking ad nauseam from narrow, politically motivated sources. Anyway, this is what a decent TOTV thread can look like. That does not happen much around here anymore. This one— “Prenups” — had some idea-exchanges, some advice, and even a little fun. A rarity, lately. (sigh) |
Would you buy a home here and opt not to have hurricane insurance..
Just say en disaster waiting to happen |
