Default Freedom of Speech

It’s interesting how you take Freedom of Speech for granted until it’s gone.

Unfortunately there is no longer any freedom of speech in America!

It now believe the science as dictated to you by the elites. Science used to be about asking questions. That’s how science advances by asking questions. But those days are gone. It’s all believe the science or your a heretic science denier like Galileo who was persecuted in 1615 because he said the earth rotated around the sun!

Don’t talk politics because questioning the ruling class of professional politicians is forbidden.

Tech & media oligarchs now censor whatever is not in their best interests! The 1/2 of 1% now rules America. They just met in sun valley billionaires with total wealth of 5 trillion dollars.
They have freedom to run propaganda brainwashing and to censor free speech!

Where do we go from here? Will freedom become important again or will Americans be content being ruled by billionaire elitists. Economic reality is usually the great leveler. US Debt now 28 trillion which is unsustainable.

The Constitution protects people from having their speech censored by the government, not by private enterprise. As frustrating as it is to read or watch, any private-enterprise medium has the right to print, say or censor anything it wants, subject of course to applicable law.

The risk of course is that the credibility of such media suffer. Preaching to the choir may make the ideologues in the audience happy, but in my opinion it is not the best way to increase circulation or viewership.

Freedom of speech? Really? We can say anything we want to say without fear of repercussions. So states the ministry of propaganda and public enlightenment. Dah?

Actually, I liked the OP. The ignorance of the grammar was matched only by the ignorance of the content.

I'm guessing that you have never lived somewhere where there really is no freedom of speech?

Read the posts from our fellow villagers. These people are older, more educated, and more prosperous than average. Yet, for too many their view is freedom of speech is only if your agree with me. That is truly sad. That is where we are and how we got here.

Several points in this post. That half of 1% first of all I've heard that same point for 1%. It does not matter. History shows the same tactic establish HATE, a powerful mindless emotion. The evil 1%? No I am not in the 1% but the math is simple if we dare to see what is happening. Establish a group to HATE, in our case 1% use that to unite the other 99% of potential voters to your side.

In terms of the 28 TRILLION dollar debt. We have been hoodwinked. How many tossing about this term, parroting what we are being fed, dare, as I do, to realize they do not comprehend one trillion let alone 28 of them.

Solutions? Sadly, I do not see any. I've never in my life seen our country so divided.
The fault? The fault is our people.

Too bad, since I agree with your previous post. By the way, "ignorant" is not "name calling". It is an accurate, descriptive term for that first post.

HUH? We can take any law and tie it into a knot. We actually have people who study how to do it we call them attorneys. There is intent of a law. That is decided in court.
Rulings establishes legal precedent.

As far as news, information that people vote on. Who owns the news is a topic many should read about. According to my reading, yes, every article has the bias of the writer and or the source-that is the problem. In any case what I've read was that in the 1960s
there were fifty major owners of news. Today, it is five. Of the five four have a left wing bias.

Fair news? For most of us it is news that agrees with our bias.

Carrying it one step further...laws in this country must be CONSTITUTIONAL; in this particular case meaning that the right of free speech is a right of not only individuals but to privately-owned businesses (media) as well. The law can no more tell media what it can and cannot say than it can tell you what you can and cannot say, both of course subject to applicable law (you can't yell "FIRE" in a crowded theater, to use a well-worn example).

Don't like what you are reading and hearing? You have the right of free speech, as have we all. But none of us has the right not to be offended.

....
No need for tying or interpreting the intent, the language is very clear and concise:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

The amendment prohibits government from creating laws that abridge the freedom of speech but it does not apply to private entities such as facebook or ToTV.

Of course, that's correct, but those who have been programmed with words and catch phrases to go forth and regurgitate just do not want to hear it or even try to understand it.

I would suggest learning what free speech is protected by our Constitution. Government can not deny or infringe on your free speech. Businesses have every right to make the rules for their business model. Just because you don't like what some business models incorporate doesn't mean they are taking away your free speech. Can a restaurant deny you service if you don't have a shirt on? Yes, they can. You can always get on a soap box and speak all you want, until someone throws a tomato at you ;-)
