This is what the article says:

“1. The vaccines are 95% effective and may help reduce the severity of the disease.

In Phase 3 studies, both the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines were found to be 95% effective in the early months after the vaccine. Put simply, “If there were 100 people who would have gotten COVID, it prevented 95 of them from getting it, but it didn’t prevent all 100,” says Dr. Marks. “It definitely provides some protection, but it’s not perfect.”

The good news is that early data found that those who did contract COVID-19 after receiving the vaccine did not develop a severe form of the disease. “So even if it doesn’t completely prevent illness, the study data shows that it does reduce the severity,” says Dr. Marks.”

Without the actual numbers, these statements are a bit vague and can be interpreted differently. My understanding is that 95% of the people who were vaccinated did not get Covid, but 5% did. And those who did get Covid after they were fully inoculated, had “reduced severity”. So they did not die (in my language).

If there is a different interpretation I’d like to hear it.

If you are in the 5%, It's like you never were vaccinated.

So again, I'll re-post what I wrote on another COVID thread-----

Why does this idiotic rumor keep spreading????? Again, I challenge ANYONE to cite a reputable source for this nonsense.

Think of it this way-----why would all the "experts" be pushing the vaccines as the method of obtaining herd immunity and ending this pandemic if the vaccines did not confer immunity. Why spend billions on vaccines that only prevent "death" in the 0.3% of the people who would actually die from it. In fact, in a cold-hearted but social Darwinian model, why keep people who can spread the virus alive?

Yet , on just about every COVID thread, some yahoo pops up with the "the vaccine only decreases severity of illness and reduces the chance of death" Use your brains, please.

I'm not a yahoo. After vaccination, you have a 95% chance of being immune. But you can still get it (5% change) and pass it on, but its likely to be milder. As per this article posted by someone else.

I agree with your interpretation. That is how I see it. I figure, now that I'm fully vaccinated, if I do contract Covid, I'm in that unlucky 5%. But being unlucky is not all THAT bad because I won't have severe disease so I won't need hospitalization and I won't die directly from Covid.

I don't want to be naive to think that there won't be deaths but just not directly from Covid. Deaths from heart attacks, cancer and all sort of co-morbidites could do anyone in but it won't be a direct result from Covid. My opinion, of course.

Hopefully sooner rather than later they can tell if we are in the unlucky 5%.

According to the government... If I get vaccinated: 💉💉💉

1.- Can I stop wearing the mask?
Government Response - No

2.- Can they reopen restaurants, pubs, bars etc and everyone work normally?
Government Response - No

3.- Will I be resistant to covid?
Government Response - Maybe, but we don't know exactly, it probably won't stop you getting it

4.- At least I won't be contagious to others anymore?
Government Response - No you can still pass it on, possibly, nobody knows.

5.- If we vaccinate all children, will school resume normally?
Government Response - No

6.- If I am vaccinated, can I stop social distancing?
Government Response - No

7.- If I am vaccinated, can I stop disinfecting my hands?
Government Response - No

8.- If I vaccinate myself and my grandfather, can we hug each other?
Government Response - No

9.- Will cinemas, theatres and stadiums be reopened normally thanks to vaccines?
Government Response - No

10.- Will the vaccinated be able to gather?
Government Response - No

11.- What is the real benefit of vaccination?
Government Response - The virus won't kill you.

12.- Are you sure it won't kill me?
Government Response - No

13.- If statistically the virus won't kill me anyway ... Why would I get vaccinated?"
Government Response - To protect others.

14.- So if I get vaccinated, the others are 100% sure I'm not infecting them?
Government Response - No

So to summarise, the Covid19 vaccine...

Does not give immunity.
Does not eliminate the virus.
Does not prevent death.
Does not guarantee you won’t get it.
Does not prevent you from getting it.
Does not stop you passing it on
Does not eliminate the need for travel bans.
Does not eliminate the need for business closures.
Does not eliminate the need for lockdowns.
Does not eliminate the need for masking.

So...what the heck is it actually doing? 🤦🏼*♂️🤷🏼*♂️

This post looks mighty familiar to me. In fact, I believe I have already responded to this post in another thread.

My response is.....you won't die. That is a pretty good benefit from the vaccine.

So many experts. So much contradiction. I feel the best advice comes from the medical EXPERTS.

Vaccination
1. WILL NOT Protect you 100%
2. WILL protect you from getting it bad and killing you

Pay attention to the SCIENCE!!!!!

Oh lord here we go again...as if we all need another dictating what to do with our lives...I thankfully get up everyday and go about my life, and have since all of this started...I am still alive and kicking. No vaccines, working daily, and enjoying life...

Buckeye Bleau 02-27-2021 06:34 AM

Awesome, going to all this trouble, investment and possible negative affects for a pathogen with what, a 98% recovery rate?
Brilliant!

I truly feel sorry for you - to live with a head full of pure negativity and sorrow. I pray you find something, someone to help you thru your negative life and thoughts.

It is going to be a beautiful - sunny day - Spend time laughing and enjoying time with friends and family!!!! Watch the birds and wildlife play by the ponds!!! Enjoy gathering at the great events we have here at the Villages!!! Take that trip to visit your grandchildren or a friend you haven’t seen for years!!! Believe me, when the time comes - and you are really unable to do anything - you will have no regrets - only wonderful memories!!!

It is a great day to live and enjoy interacting - or just spending the day enjoying life by yourself.

I am only 64 and obviously waiting patiently to receive my vaccine. Thank you to those mask wearing people. I choose to take the side of caution for just a little longer. Everyone is a tough guy and invincible until you get the Covid and are praying to God so you can breathe! I was one of them ....

banjobob 02-27-2021 06:52 AM

Thank you for posting some common sense. Those with their hair on fire about masks and the “science” should read the statistics on the virus death risk by age group. Most that do have it are only slightly sick for a few days with loss of smell or taste lasting a little longer. If you have serious health issues stay away from crowds and protect yourself ,others will enjoy their lives without the alarmists rants.

From what I got from the Israeli study, ingestion of the virus after being inoculated will kill the virus (spores?) so that you should not be able to contract the disease or communicate it to others.

I believe it's the Pfizer vaccine that is showing this protection. There's no data on Moderna. Still, my plans are to ditch the mask after the appropriate time period, unless I must enter an establishment that "requires" a mask.

Which science? The same one that is now saying 2 + 2 doesn't necessarily equal 4? Thank God I am still asleep and not woke.
