One, by combining two bills, you can't vote for one, and not the other.

And, second, both bills are spending way too much money that the country doesn't have, thereby increasing the National debt. Even the COVID part sends $600 checks to everyone making less than $75,000, even if they have a Government job and were never affected financially by the pandemic.

The idea between giving everyone who makes under $75,000 a check is twofold. Number one, it helps out those that have been affected by the pandemic. But also just as important, hopefully much of that money will get spent thereby helping businesses that have been affected as well.

My income if is from social security and a retirement portfolio. It really haven't been affected by the pandemic. But I will take my $600 and buy some things that I may not have bought without it.

Now I realize that not everyone will spend the money. Some will put into into their bank account or invest it, but I think that most people will spend it. Maybe a lot more people will go out to eat or order take out from a restaurant or buy a new pair of shoes that they might not have bought otherwise. Those purchases will help struggling businesses and the employees of those businesses.

I'm not normally a big fan of injecting money into the economy this way but I believe that it's good idea in an emergency such as this.

You will please provide a link to where in this legislation there is any provision to provide payments to "illegal aliens"
You, like so many others, are getting your information from lying sources to enrage you.

Fact checks are available like HERE which directly address the same false information you are spreading.

Apparently you believe that the most likely response to the situation in this country is to buy ammunition and prepare for the war being promoted by the Proud Boys. I think the most appropriate response is to learn to double check your sources and accept that sometimes in a democracy your side wins and other times it looses not threaten violence. Please familiarize yourself with the term "Stochastic Terrorism" which you are promoting by your implied threat to the maintenance of civil order.

This is extremely simple people. Two different things that get put together. That is how Congress works and always has worked. It is extremely rare for a piece of legislation to be single issue. Maybe renaming a post office.

The particulars of the final Consolidated Appropriations Act legislation is that there were two completely unrelated bills which were combined into a single piece of legislation and voted on as a package. One part was a former stand alone Covid bill, the other was a much broader bill to keep the government running and avoid yet another shutdown. In the avoid shutdown were all those items that one side of the spectrum keep screaming about not belonging in the Covid bill. And if you care to check they are almost entirely things that the White House asked for in the general NOT Covid part of that package.. like foreign aid etc.

A GOP member of the House of Representatives has attempted to make this all very clear even posting the exact language requesting funding from the POTUS's wish list for the omnibus bill along side the amount included in the Omnibus portion of the law just passed.

This fact has been pointed out repeatedly with documentation. One person has used his megaphone to lie to the American public and certain segments of the population don't fact check. But at least on this issue the truth is entirely clear to anyone who wants to check it for themself. Even FOX got the headline right in explaining that this was two bills attached together This was NOT just putting a few lines into a Covid bill to sneak it through [like the 3 martini lunch tax deduction was added]

Other links Here and HERE

To summarize: There were two separate pieces of legislation packaged into one voted Bill
A) The omnibus bill to keep the government running to which was attached
B) The Covid relief bill.

The complaints of the OP of this thread related to the Omnibus portion of the law. Now in the interest of full information.. The bulk of the Bill which you can read HERE is not the Covid portion.

There are many things in this bill that have NOTHING to do with either COVID or "keeping the government running" and the comment that "this is the way Congress has always done it" doesn't cut it with me!

So explain to me how giving millions to the Smithsonian and the Kennedy Center helps keep our government running????? Or for that matter our taxpayer money to other countries??????

sooziesoul 01-04-2021 11:11 AM

So they don’t need a raise! They get enough money from special interest groups and lobbyists!! How else do you think that they all become multi millionaires ?????

Don't confuse the 5,593 page, $2.3T Consolidated Appropriations Act with the the $900B Covid relief. The Covid relief seems to be Division N of the 5,593 page document.

Google finds a number of articles with details of what is in the $900B. Two of them are:
Wall Street Journal
CBS News

Congress.gov good place to start

The Omnibus bill was needed to keep the government running. Had it not passed, the government would have shut down like it has a few times in the recent past. The Omnibus bill contains a lot of things, approximately $1.4T worth of things and many people believe many of those things have nothing to do with running government.

This is the way Congress has passed appropriations for many years. It isn't "the way things should be done" but it's the way things have been done for quite a while.

I believe millions to the Kennedy Center was part of the CARES act and not this recent bill.

Money for the Smithsonian was part of the COVID bill in support of the arts. Just as grocery store workers and airline workers need help, so do artists.

The CARES act was not part of this recent bill.

The COVID bill and the money it provides was part of "keeping our government running" only because it was attached to the Omnibus bill.

Part of what the US government does is provide support to foreign governments. That money was part of the Omnibus bill and the Omnibus bill was needed to keep the government open.

Remember who’s in control of the media & really think our taxes won’t go up because of that. Very good point but they’re some post out there that have it laid out where 100’s of billions of dollars are going. Great Comment!

Most of those who should take your very good advice on researching the truth or facts, have historically proved they won't (can't?). They much prefer the outlandish lies and conspiracy theories that feeds their 'confirmation bias' - or are even willing and active participants of said Stochastic Terrorism.

Stochastic terrorism is now being promoted at the highest level of US government, based on these conspiracies.

The theories bantered about and promoted by our government adds to the embarrassment of my county

This was once only seen in what we call third world" countries need now is present in our government.

The recent calls for violence by elected official, and a call for "wild times" in the streets, based on dis proven, not un proven, but dis proven conspiracy is worthy of countries our government now mocks
