Default Garage Door Sticks

Hi again,

When I open my garage door, it gets stuck after it has opened about three feet. I did a search and came up with nothing. I tried graphite lubrication on the tracks and that didn't help. Anyone have any ideas?

Try garage door lube on the overhead track. Also, pull the emergency handle, and work the door by hand to see if it is binding. You can also look at and lube the hinges.

Hope this helps.

Never lube the tracks. Those wheels are meant to roll, not slide.

I suggest you call Romac. In many installations, the part that moves back and forth on the upper track is defective. The part is no charge to the customer, but there is a charge for labor.
This happened to me, I even backed out without the door being all the way up. I'm pretty sure your problem is the defective part. Good luck!

I second that, first thing I would do, check all the tracks supports and hinges for loose hardware, next as suggested, manually move it up and down to try and find the stuck parts if that didn't help? I also make sure the track brackets mounting hardware tight all the way cross the top.

On my older heavier garage door on my previous house That had 4 springs for counter balance it was most always track roller bracket loose on section of the door. Allowed the door to droop enough too bind the roller wheel in the track which usually made loud clacking sound as the door when up and down.

I had the same problem. It turns out that the rubber gasket that seals between the door frame and the door was the culprit. As it ages, it tends to stick to the door a bit. Try putting the door up and smearing a little vaseline all around the door frame, on the part of the white rubber gasket that contacts the door, when it is down.

If that doesn't help, call Ryan O'Cull at (352) 617-0522.

Thank guys,

I will try the recommended steps this weekend (still working) and report back. If all else fails, I will call ROMAC.

Thanks again,

I'd call Ryan O'Cull at (352) 617-0522. He has an excellent reputation and has the best price. Search for his name on TOTV and you'll see many positive posts about him.

Ryan sprayed Pam on our gasket. Works like a charm

Finally broke down and called Romac after trying most of the suggestions above. The guy came out and adjusted two screws that adjust the up and down strength. He said the one to raise the door was way out of whack. Then he WD40'd the heck out of all the rollers and the big spring mounted above the door. 75 bucks later everything was working great and it was a lot quieter.

All good suggestions.
1. Inspect and tighten ALL loose bolts if any.
2. Spray ALL hinges, roller bearings, drive rail and chain with canola oil spray. Will leave no odor, no unsightly drip trail, no mess.

Try cleaning the safety lights on each side of the door. If that isn't it, Call Ryan. He's the best!
