Default Lanai Door Hard to Close

My elderly neighbor's door is hard to close. The bottom sill has some notches or bumps that appear to hinder closer.

Any ideas on a fix?

We cleaned the plate and sprayed a little WD40.

See picture.

TIA

It looks like one of the rails may have a slight dent, but I don't know if that is the problem. Also, WD-40 is a solvent, not a lubricant. You might try a silicone or lithium lubricant on the door part. But, if that doesn't work, you probably need a good handyman.

In an earlier post, Steve Vanes or Steve Van Es
In Summerfield was recommended for roller replacement.

It was also suggested to apply "Door Ease" lubricant to the track where the rollers touch. It's like a big crayon. It's under a couple of bucks, should be available at any hardware store or Home Depot, etc. Here's a link to show you what it looks like.

The picture looks like the roller bed has some rough surfaces and those need to be smoothed. The rollers are probably shot as well and replacing them along with smothing the roller bed ridges will help a lot. Those doors are REALLY HEAVY so if you're not pretty good with heavy, bulky things, then best you leave all that to one of the contacts given above. I did mine and got another couple of years use before replacing the entire door system. But - wow, those doors are REALLY HEAVY and a pain to move around.

Another vote for Steve Van Es (352-245-3013). He worked his magic on our lanai doors about two months ago. What a difference! They slide quietly and easily now.

Might just need the rollers adjusted to lift the door more.

Sounds like it needs new rollers.

You probably need to remove the sliders and lubricate the wheels directly. They end up getting all gummed up over time. We had to do this will the sliders in our villa. The wheels were not moving it all on one. I had to use pliers to get them to turn at first. Once freed up, I cleaned then lubricated the bearing and wheels. Now the doors open and close as they should.

It's really not that big of a job, but you need a helper and something to lay the door on that's high enough you can work on the bottom. You will have to remove the fixed door first to get the moving door off so do it on a cool morning.

Default Lani door fix

The rail on the track for the sliding door is aluminium and they wear un-even. You can purchase a stainless steel cap for the rail that will allow the door to glide smoothly. It is very easy to install, it just snaps over the aluminium rail.
